any comments on set of pearly gates for HH hog/?..laminate strat body. good bang for the buck or......THANKS

supposed to be PAF-ish with some additional snarl. I've seen them used in HSS strats and in Les Paul style guitars. I've never heard one in person, but I'd say there shouldn't be anything wrong with it in a mahogany strat if it works in other strats and other mahogany guitars.  :dontknow:

GFS pickups get pretty good praise around here, it's hard to get cheaper than those, if cost is a concern.

Forget about the money. If they cost three times what they do they'd still be reasonable and I'd still buy them. They're well-made and sound great, especially their True Coils. They really hit the nail on the head with that product. Think of the best single coil you've ever heard, take the noise away, and that's these things.

But, don't take my word for it. The little buggers are only $30 or so. They're practically disposable. Put one in something, and go tell it on a mountain.

thanks for the replies. just testing the forum waters for pearly gates sound from everyday joe guitar, as opposed to b.gibbons (we all know & love THAT sound).  i'll sure check out GFS website.

Plus 1 on the GFS pickups.

I have a NeoVin7 Tele neck pickup and it is absolute pure sweetness.

Some other's along the PAF/Pearly Gates vein are:

Forget about the price being an issue, a good pickup is a good pickup. A low cost is just an added benefit.

I have a pearly gates zebra in the bridge of my PRS (mahogany core, maple cap) and it's my favorite pickup of any guitar I have. Find a guitar with some in it and play it - Pearly gates is awesome.

Had a PG in an HSS a strat with Texas Specials.  I've had personal experience with less than ten humbuckers but that Pearly Gates sounded awesome with a maple necked strat and some moderate gain.  I would put that as a "can't go wrong with" pickup.  Had more going on than a '59 but still definitely kept a PAF vibe.

I currently have a Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge of a mahogany strat and thats been fun also.
Now that I think of it, the only pickups I've ever had that sucked were factory Ibanez.  I guess I'm not that discerning after all.

The PG is a good pickup. There are tons of good pickups out there though, and NOBODY knows if you'll like it with your ears, in your guitar through your amp playing your songs with your style in your band. You just pick one, and if it doesn't work then you look around for something brighter / darker / louder / quieter / whatever it was you lacked on the first decision. That's why Ebay is full of used pickups.

Anyone have any experience with the single-coil sized version of the Pearly Gates? I'm looking at upgrading the pickups in my strat, and I had thought of going with the "everything axe" seymour set, until I saw the Pearly Gates for strat...

I love the pearly in strats and les pauls. they are dirty, raunchy, aggressive and sweet at the same time. love 'm...
