What do you think about Pau Ferro? I like the feel of it, and the look of  it. For aM aple/ Pau Ferro fingerbaord Strat neck, is the tone distinguishable from Maple?

What  about a Pau Ferro body.

Which is heavier , Pau Ferro or Maple?

Anyone got a good link to a thread about it here?

Thanks

A Maple/Pau neck will sound like a Maple neck. An all-Pau neck will sound like a Maple neck. The feel is also almost identical if you burnish them. Pau Ferro is generally slightly heavier than Maple. The real advantage of Pau Ferro is appearance. It's absolutely gorgeous, while non-figured Maple is somewhat non-descript.

I doubt you'd ever find a solid Pau Ferro body, but if you did it would probably be wildly expensive. But, Warmoth sometimes offers it as a veneer. For instance, here's a Pau Ferro topped Regal from them...

Absolutely love my Pau Ferro board on my Goncalo Alves neck. The whole things plays very smooth, and its gorgeous. Sometimes it is a bit light colored for my taste, but the one I got is a nice rich brown with dark streaks.

I like Pau Ferro and am now part of the Pro Ebony group here too. I don't think you can go wrong with Pau Ferro. I , for one, also like the color and streaking variations in Pau Ferro and seem to be the rare person who prefers lighter looking fret boards. I don't oil my Rosewood fretboard and still love Rosewood a lot. It just feels like home. But Pau Ferro is one where I don't think you can miss with it. And it's also one of the woods I think is worth the upcharge to do the unique choice on in the builder if you have a neck made for you. But plenty of fine Pau in the showcase. Occasionally some truly outrageous looking Pau fretboards appear in the showcase.

The Pao Ferro/Pao Ferro is my favorite neck. Once it's burnished it's as smooth as glass and is really gorgeous set against a plain body. Nice tight high-end out of it too. It was a perfect choice for the Surf Strat I built.

Yeah, I don't think you'll find a body, but veneer and fretboard and/or fretboard/neck are awesome choices.

Here's a John Suhr with Pau Ferro veneer top, neck, and freboard:

Sweet!

Another fan here of Pau Ferro - smooth and tight grained means slick playability. Got two necks [one with Ebony board, the other with Pau Ferro] and even a top:
