It just kept growing on me.  It's going on a tobacco burst Squier '51 body with a P-rails (with the switching pickup mount) in the bridge and a Duncan stacked humbucker (single coil sized) in the neck (which can be split by the push/pull on the volume knob).  I think that this guitar may be epic.  Sperzel locking tuners, chrome colored for now until I figure out if I want those or the brushed chrome color.

Mark, no one gives a crap about this. Why did you think we would be interested?

Joey, you are a mean, mean person.  I would cry, but boys don't cry.

This is what happens when you get angry that no one commented on your internet posting. All your self-esteem goes down the toilet, and you have to fight the tears.

I'm just a black sheep who mods existing guitars more than building new ones (though I do that too).  My half-moths are some of my fav guitars.

this will be great!! however, chtome is so standard on tobacco brst guitars, i would go with either black or brushed chrome

You know, during the thanksgiving sale I ordered a custom GC/Bubinga warhead neck, and they sent me a tele neck instead. So I sent it back.  I think that's the neck.

Having seen it in person, I can say it looks really nice.

How about  :headbang: rusted chrome?

tobaccoburst begs for gold hardware. and so does actually every color except for lemon burst, tea burst and faded cherryburst. those colors can only handle nickel, but if the red gets more intense, it needs gold again ;)

Decided to put the Goncalo/Bubinga neck on a Tele Body instead and keep the older Tele neck on the tobacco burst '51.  Here's a family shot of my 4 '51s.  I'm partial to these.

Left to right:
1)  Tobacco burst with an older tele neck (smaller than 1 5/8" nut, late 60s?  only has Torres' stamp on it since the date stamp was ruined by refinish), Prails with the switching mounting ring in the bridge, stacked humbucker in the neck (push/pull splits the stacked humbucker), Sperzel locking tuners.
2)  Black body with aftermarket white pearloid guard, 1 11/16" padouk/padouk W peghead neck, black tusq nut, GFS 4 conductor humbucker (push/pull coil splits this), and Fender Noiseless single in the neck.  Black speed knobs.  Sperzel tuners.
3)  Blonde body with 1 5/8" Total Vintage maple/b rosewood JM neck, bone nut, locking vintage tuners, Duncan P90 in the neck, Prails in the bridge (push pull splits to P90 coil which noise cancels in the middle position with the neck pickup).  Big Pbass knobs.
4)  Blonde body with Purpleheart/Ebony neck, 1 5/8" black tusq nut, Gotoh tuners, stock Fender bridge humbucker (sounds really good, so I left it in one... push/pull splits this), Duncan Quarter Pound neck single coil.

Annnnd, here's what the neck will be living on.  Needs a control plate and tuners still.  The fretwork seems good enough to plug and play.

black isn't a shameful choice if it comes down to it.

So, this weekend was a teething snuggle party with the baby.  I used my spare moments where she was distracted by a cat or a book to do some set up work on the 51 and the red tele with the new Goncalo/Bubinga neck.  I also packed up some items for shipping to board members (that I've been slacking on).  A few thoughts:

1)  I really like the old Tele neck on the tobacco '51.  It's a comfortable marriage.  I don't know what to do for a neckplate, however.  It has a blank one on there now, and that feels wrong, but I need something that feels vintage without being typical.

2)  Goncalo sounds *good* with the Palowina body.  This is a lively guitar without being at all brittle or harsh.  I'm very pleased.

3)  I need more cases.

I keep forgetting about cases. I need a couple more, too. I'm also going to have to do something about storage space. Can probably stash a couple under the bed...
