They were proving a point, that you could build a decent guitar out of 2 x 4's from a pallet.  It was so popular that they now make a pallet guitar.  The Inlay was a bit of a joke as well.  Here is the link.

Bob Benedetto built that guitar to proove exactly the point, that guitar wood is over rated, and the only reason to use it is because we can.

But of course Bob builds most all of his guitars from nice woods A) to look nice, and B) because he can

I bet we could build a nice sounding guitar from Cedar

I guess you could build one pretty much out of what ever you wanted, hey they make guitars from cigar boxes....... :dontknow:
