For those who built using the old school VIPs (actually version 2), before double lam tops, and you had the top recessed control routes, can you use short shaft pots, or are long still needed? If I look up PR* with recessed routes, they appear to use shirt shaft pots.

If you already have the short-shaft pots, wait until you get the body and see if they'll fit. If not, you can buy pots from any of 2,435,000 places. If you want to be prepared ahead of getting the body, just buy the long shaft pots. You can set the install depth with the backup nut.

I have both old and new style VIPs, but I use long shaft pots on everything so I don't know for fact if short ones will work. Generally speaking, short shaft pots are for panel mounting, and the rear-routed control cavities mean you have to go through wood that's maybe 3 times as thick as a pickguard or control plate.

I got one, it thickness around 8mm can say that short-shaft pots barely can put it on without any washers.
