Crate built a BV 300 watt a few years ago, it has 6-6550's, 2-12AU7's and 8-12AX7's....300 watts of TUBE power....It's insane...

My ears ring just looking at those amps!

My hearing aids' compressor circuits would go out on strike if I subjected them to that muich volume!  :sad1:

Not here yet, but soon.. next week, late I hope.
got a good price on it so I'm going to try some mods.
1st master volume
2nd change the pre amp circuit.
later I may try to change the rectifier, only time will tell
I'm also wanting to see what it would sound like with some yellow jackets in it, but that would be expensive at 90 bucks for two. The THD website says I could mix it up so I could end up with 2 el34's and 4 yellow jackets sporting el84's.
will be fun no matter what.

My old mate Neil bagged a late 70's sound city a few years ago and refurbed it. Sounded great, but he wanted to play with some mods so he basically blackfaced it. Sounds really nice now n

They also built a BV-600 watt head. Im guessing it had 12-6550's, 4-12AU7's and 16-12AX7's...

Nope, it's got more than that....It has a total of 45 tubes....

45 tubes is rediculas... i mean that through a wall of 36 12 inch speakers, that must move some serious air.

I think it's awesome, too bad it was made by Crate tho, because if it's anything like my Blue Voodoo, it's bound to turn into BLUE DOODOO

That many tubes could heat my house!  On the big S-O-B, don't know why they bothered to angle the top cab.  Who is up there, and can they really not hear it?

Because it looks cool... :icon_biggrin:

Actually - it was done to look cool. If you wanted it to be functional, you would angle the bottom speakers up. Only crickets and grasshoppers have ears in their knees. I have doodles of a 112 Combo/112 Extension where I was playing with doing this. But it put the extension cabinet on top, precluding top mounted controls. Never got past doodle stage.

I'm more concerned about the knobs.

Something like that, crank them all to 11.  It's a volume statement, not a tone statement.
I'm surprised there isn't just one knob that says ears at 5 o'clock and hearing aids at 12 o'clock and a big red button that says 'do not push' that's the boost function.
