What do I have to provide to get Warmoth to do custom pickup routing? If I want something like a MEC Twinjazz, could(/would) they do it? I assume there'd be an extra fee. I'm looking to have this thing arrive at my door as near to finished as possible since my toolbox features a tape measure (never used) and a hammer (used often).

If I could get it routed ahead of time so I could just bolt the metal on and string it up, that would save me driving from Kansas to Arkansas for access to a woodshop.

Max is correct.  $45 is the usual charge for custom pickup routing.  I know this because I just ordered a Gecko bass body with a custom pickup configuration.

What would be most helpful for Warmoth is for you to provide accurate dimensions of the pickup(s) along with the location where you want the route to be carved.  I've even heard rumors that you can send a pickup to Warmoth and they'll measure it for you, then make the route in the body to fit exactly.  But it will require time and effort on their part.

You should send an e-mail to Eric (@warmoth.com) and provide as much detail as you know.  He has worked with me in the past and I am very pleased with his service.  I don't know if the MEC Twinjazz is the same shape as the Powerbucker.  Were you looking for something similar to a Warwick Fortress Masterman?  If so, that sounds like a killer idea.  Definitely let us all know how the project works out.  :)

Tubby, actually I was leaning more to what would happen if you mashed a 'wick Dark Lord and Infinity together. In all three cases though, the T/J in the bridge is vital. Plus a good growly two-band EQ.. Something special could happen.

Warwick provided me with the dimensions of their TJ, 43x92mm, but emails to Rio for dimensions get returned due to a full mailbox and they don't seem to enjoy answering their phones.

Anybody have a Powerbucker they can measure?

RG Powerbuckers are standard pickup routing options.  http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Options/BassPickupRouting.aspx

The MEC Twin Jazz looks bigger, like it has more space between the coils than the RG PowerBucker.

Agreed. Looks like we have a educated guess on my $45 question.

You'd be looking at more than $45 for those pickups.  The shop would not free hand the work.  A custom jig would be made and the pickup ears would add some complexity/time to the process.  Pricing would probably be double, but that's just a guess.

So Im looking at a $90 route for a $300 pickup.. As long as the wife doesn't find out then  :rock-on:

I'm looking around. MEC are the most expensive pups I've found. I'm talking to SD about a Twinjazz right now. SD Custom Shop could be cheaper than stock MEC.
