No headstock fitting a flying V

If you were to build a flying V type guitar today, would you find any headstock satisfactory?

  • Yes, the Vortex, even though it looks like a PRS headstock.

  • No, all of the current options look off on a flying V, we need pointier headstocks.

Am I the only one who thinks this way?
The Vortex and Warmoth are not pointy enough, they kind of look more like something you would have on a PRS than a flying V of any kind.
The other tiltbacks that have 6 tuners in line (Arcade and Nomad) shouldn't ever be seen on a flying V type guitar (objective truth).
I know that Warmoth doesn't want to provoke Gibson in any way, but surely there must be a way to offer pointy headstocks without setting off their alarms.
Do you guys who feel the same way as I do about this awful situation we find ourselves in have any constructive advice to Warmoth?
I am going to put up a poll to see what the public thinks about this.

Gibson is pretty litigious on headstock design, that might be a barrier to what you're looking for. I think you need to add the Arrow to your survey. I don't have a V because half the time I play I'm sitting down (and all the time when I'm practicing, )and while the V looks cool, never owned one, and I feel it wouldn't balance when sitting down.

Arrow has been added to the poll.
Yes, you are right, it's really not for everyone.
Cumbersome to play in a sitting position with the guitar over the right leg, works great in the classical position though.

We used to do a V style headstock.

Can you guess why we no longer do it?

Bonus points if you can name the year.

Hurrumph.

I guess I'll make the pop quiz harder next time. LOL.
I mentioned in my original post that there has to be a way to make a pointier headstock without provoking Gibson, so of course I knew about it. This one that's found on your facebook site looks much better on a V than anything you have to offer right now. It would be even better if the tuners were symmetrical, and if it's tiltbacked (hard to tell if it is already from this picture alone).

That's the Ken Lawrence headstock. It's an off-menu option.

There you go, you make those tuners symmetrical and a tiltback version of it (maybe it already is, like I mentioned hard to tell from this picture alone) and I'll bet my last 2 achorns that it will sell like water in the desert.

But I do agree there isn't a headstock we offer that goes very well with a V. We've got a bunch of cool stuff we're trying to get released in 2025, and maybe after that this is another project we can tackle. It will depend on whether a champion can be found to push for it.

Well I know that you have taken on a couple of battles for us customers which I find admirable. For example I know you championed for them to adopt the Fender style easy neck access, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't listen to you.

They do, but there are myriad factors that can prevent or delay a project like that. And it's for exactly that reason that I have learned to never promise dates.

But I've got my fingers crossed for 2025.

Missing on the poll: buy a paddle and cut my own headstock.

Search on the forum for my V-K builds (one complete so far, two new ones started recently).

My good sir, I don't go to Warmoth, or any other store for that matter, to purchase a compromise.
I will take a look at your V-K build.

Edit: I can tell that you are very skilled, well done.
