Nitrocellulose Finnish (Aerosol)

The stuff at stewmac works well too.  I have used it twice.  Deft nitro is also a good option.

If you are using tinted nitro to do the base color, you could get away with just one can for the final.  I would get two just to be sure.  I have had to sand imperfections out before and the second can was needed.  The stewmac kits comes with four cans of clear.

I will be doing a guitar soon.  I have one can amber, two cans clear.  I may be adding a burst but not sure.  I like to have somewhere between 8-10 coats of nitro clear.

I was just at the Gibson factory this week.  I got to see their finish process first hand.  They use 8 coats of nitro...looked like they spray it heavy too.

yeah, pablo. I'm watching over a dozen start bodies right now, but I'm hoping for a teeny little bit of good luck/good deal . . . by the way, what are you sending me? I know you want it to be a surprise but I'd hate to fork out a bit extra for something loaded with some parts if you're already sending me stuff . . .

I think I will just go for a showcase body after all!  :blob7:

that way, I know I've got quality, compatibility with the bridge and neck. I'll throw your stuff on it to start, and get the p-rails a bit later. do you want me to mail back anything I don't use/take back off later? or should I just pass it on to another forumite?

I have a standing offer on a Fender 50s RI body in Daphene Blue, but I low-balled 'em a bit on the first bid, so I expect it to be declined. If not, hey! I'll use the Fender body. If it is (hopefully I know by tomorrow), I'll spring for a showcase bod.

Just pass it on! :headbang1:

hey, Pabloman . . . is the pickguard wired up with the pups and the pots and stuff? just wondering, because if its not, I'll order a wiring kit with the body to save some shipping.  :icon_thumright:

Dude . . . "made possible by pabloman, I present to you, my ordered SHOWCASE BODY!  :hello2: :hello2: :headbang: :redflag: :headbang1: :hello2: :headbang: :toothy10:"

darn. I can se how this Warmoth stuff can be so addicting. Now that I've bought a couple parts, it seems so easy . . . . and they're not even HERE yet . . . .

yeah, its the best looking (WAS the best looking) Ash sunburst bod in the showcase, and also the cheapest. Its chambered, and I got it with a recessed wilkinson route and HSH pickup route for flexibility down the road (P-Rails somewhere in its future) . . . I think I'll also have enough dough left over thanks to Pabloman's generosity . . . to get it set up professionally. I'll do assembly myself, as the Art Dept. at my school has a drill press for all the drilling of holeses, and my cousin has built several very nice guitars from scratch, so he can wire up the pick guard . . . but setup/fretloving once assembled I'll probably leave up to Brown's Guitar Factory here in MN. From all I hear, they're the go-to place for a top-notch dress/level/nut/intonation once-over. (Unless any of the MN crowd have any alternate suggestions)

That's the reason I sent the stuff to you. That's what I wanted you to end up with. I didn't want you to compromise on a body because of a bunch of hardware. Later on down the road you can change this or that. I'm so excited for you. I can't wait to get my first Warmoth. Congrats!

Yes, I'm really excited too, especially about the recessed Wilkinson. I've played a couple off-brand guitars at GC that actually had VS100s onboard (no recess route of course), and I could hardly believe how great of a tremolo they make. The ones I played returned right to pitch every time, sustain was great, nice clear sound, very smooth movement. the only thing was the "wilkinson wobble", which I did notice on most of them.

Believe it or not, black is my color of choice for the wily, too. their matte-finished chrome ones just don't look right, and gold is . . . well . . . gold  :laughing7:

Black is real sharp and spiffy looking, especially with all that other black stuff you're sending, the darker tortoise guard and the black of the burst.

too bad I got chrome tuners when I bought the neck  :icon_tongue: They're just the $30 vintage oval ones, though, which I plan to swap out someday, probably for some schaller mini locks (black now, of course)
