You know I gotta chime in again. You guys reminded me of my '78 CJ-7 I too loved that little truck. Great off road, on road not so much. No swaybars and 33" tires made for an interesting ride. I got that damn jeep stuck in more places than I care to remember. Once I buried it up to the headlights in a drained lake. Only took three other trucks and getting a skid-steer stuck also to get it out!!! But it did have a brand new Best-top on it when I bought it, and the original hard top as well. I hated to sell it, but my insurance went down like $900 a year when I dropped that old CJ.
Someone said about bowtie parts being cheap. That is the truth in comparison to Ford and Mopar. My buddies uncle has an old Ford Falcon that he drags...... He just pulled a 10.09 at the track last Thursday. He got it down from the high 10's, what did it cost him to shave off a few thousandths? $3,000!!!!!! I told him all he would have had to spend on a Chevy would have been $500 for a distributor and intake manifold to shave that much time! Oh well, my conversations with 'Unk' are mostly about Ford V Chevy anyhow, it gives us something to talk about!
I built a small block S-10 a few years ago, that was a fun project. I still have the truck sitting in my Dad's garage. I'd like to sell it, and I really don't wan't all that much money for it....... but on the other hand, my son is 11 1/2, he'll be 16 before I know it, and he loves that truck. I think he wants to finish fixing it up and drive it when he gets old enough. I'm half tempted to let him, it's a great way to learn how to not be dependant on a mechanic, fixing up your own ride and all! And a great father son project. It mostly needs cosmetic stuff, it runs pretty well, just no interior and it could use some detail work. I just slapped the motor in and went down the road!!!!
