Nifty '72 Dodge Charger

Them Duke boys used to get chased by Roscoe P. Coltrain while driving a 69.

my sources say that dem duke boys drove a '70. but who's counting, i couldnt tell you for certain as im not into the mopars but apparently there is a difference in the bumpers  :dontknow:

i always built chevies. from 540ci inch monsters for bracket racing to 560hp small block street engines.

Ya MOPARs are pretty worthless. Bowtie parts are cheaper more plentiful and so much cooler. So is the BOP stuff.

Ain't about nothing... You want a Dodge Charger, you need a '69-'70 Hemi....

I'll take a '68 thank you very much.

Never liked the little "beak" in the front grille of the '69... but the taillights rock.

Riding a motorcycle was dangerous, sex was safe, Michael Jackson was black, Saturday Night Live was funny, and gas was roughly $.50/gal.

A few years later, the Arab Oil Embargo happened, and gas went to almost $1 a gallon! It was insane! The whole country was half-panicked. Lines around the block, stations running out of gas, people car pooling, the car makers started putting little tiny engines even in great big cars, on and on. All because of a 4% drop in imports. 4%! And people wonder why we call problems in the Mideast a "national security issue". If the middle east imploded, we could lose as much as 10% of our oil supply, and it would turn to anarchy here in no time flat.

Can you say, "malaise"?

Jimmy Carter can... and did.  :icon_jokercolor:

Boy this thread brings back some memories. No digital pics of them, that these are what I had: a 68 HO and 69 HO

I completely missed this thread. That is a great car, but what really got me excited was seeing Trevor post that Big Sugar song!  :headbang1:

Never thought I'd see the day. :laughing7:

Yea!  I had one as well - massive gas hog!  It was awesome.

Later, my wife bought herself a jeep, but she got tired of me saying stuff like "Hey, that part is just like my old IH", or "My old IH used to do the same thing!".  Finally she said "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR (*$#)%(& IH ANYMORE!".  Then my dad visits, sees her truck, and immediately says "you know, your truck really reminds me of that IH that Trevor had..."  :) :) :)

People (Family) still get mad when I talk about my IH to!
But honestly, My 79 IH Scout, my 87 Austrailian Nissan Pathfinder and my 99 Jeep Wrangler all had 3 things in common. they were piles of crap, hard to drive. and had so much soul in them I loved them like they were alive.

I mean, My 2008 Scion xB is an infinitely more refined, efficient, comfortable, reliable. watertight rust free vehicle.

but It just lacks the spirit those Trucks had. I dunno what it is, its just there.

This is the model that I had - except mine was green:

Yep, it was a wonderful piece of crap.  I sold it and bought another wonderful piece of crap:  A SAAB 900S!  :icon_biggrin:

Still think you should buy it Max.  You should experience  the joy and pain of those old rags just like the rest of us have  :)

What is it about certain vehicles that makes us love them? My first car was a '90 Cavalier. Purple. It was so rusty that the back seat would fill up with snow in winter (to the point that I actually had to shovel the damn thing out a few times) and had no overdrive on the four-speed automatic (highway driving in third or fourth gear, depending on how it felt, is an interesting experience). But man, did I love that car. I was genuinely sad to see it go.

Anyway, more apropos, that's a great car your friend is trying to sell, Max. I hope it finds a good home.

No money (spent a good percentage of my money on a replacement turn signal housing for my '86 camry)
Insurance would be crazy too. Maybe later in life. :icon_thumright:

Wow, that brings back some memories. I had a '71 Challenger with a 340. Fast car, piss poor handling, hard to stop... man, I loved that car !!  Ran it at 120 mph one nite, no problems. Wrecked the same nite doing 15 mph. Go figure.
