I think you need that car, Max
Ha, I wish! Unfortunately, I can't afford it, and then... insurance.

But, this is a car a friend of mine is selling, and it's listed for the third time. Or fourth, forgot. People haven't been paying, and I wouldn't be surprised if one of you guys are interested.

Those always were a beautiful design, aesthetically. Mechanically, they were a deeply frightening thing. Tons of power (given the right engine, and there were several), but the steering, suspension and brakes weren't worth the sheet metal and pig iron they were made out of. Very easy car to kill with and get killed in.

Just relating this to music:

absolutely positively nothing in the world could possibly ever be cooler than a muscle car. fact. i've loved old cars since i was little and my dad would take me to the drag strip with him :icon_biggrin: and the Charger was always one of my favorites (up there with a Z28, Challenger, and 'Cuda).

Suspension in the rear has been replaced. Steering, I think is stock, and brakes, I think are stock as well.

If it came with power steering and brakes, at least.

It needs a little something on top......

Confederate Flag? That would give 'er about 15-25 extra HP....

Very good points.  By today's standards, a lot of those older cars (not that '72 is old) would be considered undrivable.  You need a bigger following distance, they go everywhere but straight when trying to stop, etc. etc.

If you could get them heavy rascals to stop, what with half-assed drum brakes all around fading by the second...

One of the old designs that still is driveable by todays standards is the Corvette.  My old man has a '72, and there is technology that still surpasses some cars built today!!  4 wheel disc brakes and independent rear suspension.  Now this old Mopar that Max is showing us, has about as much technology as a conestoga wagon!  But if it has an old Hemi in there, it'll sure go fast in a straight line.  But not as fast as it would have went in 70 or 71 cause in 72 the manufacturers actually did start lowering horsepower in a major way!

Some of you old guys should remind us of what gas cost in 1972.........  And how many burnouts could you get out of a set of bias ply tires?  Wasn't that back in the day when riding a motorcycle was dangerous and sex was safe?

I've driven some of those old things.  They can be pretty fun - but you gotta know where the limits are.

My dad and I had a 1950 mercury - wish we still had it, but no power brakes, no power steering, no synco-mesh on first gear,  suicide doors, and no seat belts (we added them) made life interesting.  Still, nothing was better for cruising down the road on a saturday night.

My dad also had, er, several Cadillac eldorado convertibles.  Those had a 502 Cubic Inch motors and would spin the tire like no ones business.  Strange thing was they were front wheel drive, which made spinning the tire kinda, well, interesting.  Still, with the top down on a sunny day, nothing was finer.

My first motorcycle was a 82 suzuki GS that had been slid down the road a time or two.  When you changed lanes, you'd get a pretty interesting wobble.  It would also get sideways pretty fast coming out of a traffic circle (roundabout to you UK folks).  Still, Burnouts?  no problem!

Fun times, but makes me appreciate my golf with a 5 speed, 4 disk anti-lock brakes, traction control, and controllable power.  Not much power mind you, but it'll go down the road.  :)

Had one of these,25 years ago.
But realized I didn't really need it!
Nice ride though!

Riding a motorcycle was dangerous, sex was safe, Michael Jackson was black, Saturday Night Live was funny, and gas was roughly $.50/gal.

A few years later, the Arab Oil Embargo happened, and gas went to almost $1 a gallon! It was insane! The whole country was half-panicked. Lines around the block, stations running out of gas, people car pooling, the car makers started putting little tiny engines even in great big cars, on and on. All because of a 4% drop in imports. 4%! And people wonder why we call problems in the Mideast a "national security issue". If the middle east imploded, we could lose as much as 10% of our oil supply, and it would turn to anarchy here in no time flat.

one day this car will be mine! well, maybe :icon_biggrin: i don't know if my dad will ever let it go. awesome to ride in, and nothing sounds better.

plus he's got it running in the high 10's now. Dusters are definitely underestimated on the track.
