New Half a Drum Kit Day. No snare, hardware, cymbals. Halfway considering an old school marching snare if i can make it work and something better suited doesnt come along cheaper. Start lessons tomorrow

Total cash outlay to date (not including replacement heads) $20, just by selling unused toys. The kick pedal was a Cyber Monday deal and the only thing not sourced off CL.  Now I'm on the hunt for a "Free Ride!" (har har har).  Local drum shop has used heads for $5. The tom heads were destroyed already, and they didn't have used pinstripes in 13", so that one head actually cut pretty deep into my net margin. Now I'm on a mission to finish it out without spending any more out of pocket money.

I was actually able to get pretty close to the "bomb going off" snare sound with that Ludwigi Epic 6.5x14 tuned down. The only problem with having a snare that sounds like a bomb going off is that practice sounds like a day at the EOD range.  KABOOM. KABOOM.  Turn the snares off and it could pass for a kick in some genres. Bwahaha I'm absolutely lovin it, but I think the practice pad is gonna be taking the brunt of the workouts for a little while. Now to learn how to play it.

Initial Completion! Pretty pleased with the setup for minimal cash out of pocket.

Best of luck to ya! I tried and tried, but I never could "get" drums. All I could really get going on with any consistency was snare/hi-hat/kick-bass/ride. -Couldn't figure out what the hell to do with the toms. Couldn't get my left foot and right hand to stop copying each other; -too many years of tapping my left toe while right hand strummed, I guess.

Pretty cool that ya get to give it a whirl for not too much outa-pocket $$$. Maybe this will be the set that will start it all for ya! Then you'll have a nasty cross-addiction to deal with (-"Do I buy another Warmoth body, or those new batter-heads? Hmmm...") My first (and last) Kit was half of my income tax return some years ago for some used Pearl Exports off CL. -In the end, not a waste; my son took up drumming with much ease and has since packed 'em up and took 'em with him when he moved out.

-What ever comes of it, fun is to be had, and that's for sure!  :icon_thumright:

Oh yeah. My son is just 2, but he would play drums 8hrs a day if we let him. Normally i keep it all muted down for his sake. If i can play kick snare hats ride well enough to support my songwriting, I'll consider it a success. I really think he will go far on drums though. He tries to do stuff he sees me do. He tries to keep time. He knows that the hats and ride subdivide the beat. He thinks counting out loud with the metronome is a blast. (That last one alone will get you as far as you let it take you). Its basically a race to see how far he gets before he discovers girls.

Or he'll discover (the myth) that musicians have an edge when it comes to girls.  :sign13: "-Chicks dig rock-stars!"
