I'd go without if it was me, but I'm not a violent player and so don't need a pickguard for its intended use anyway, other than as component mounting planes for guitars that need them (ie: top-route Strats)
 
I agree...looks better without.  I may leave it on for a month or two to see how it scratches up.  If it is free from marks, I can be sure the guitar will not mar since the guard sits a little higher than the body.

The guard was only $12 and took less than 2 minutes to install.
 
It just occurred to me that a pickguard is like a bib. Bibs are for babies who don't yet know not to dribble food down their fronts, or for adults who just never acquired good habits.

Disclaimer: An exceedingly simple distillation, I admit, but I enjoyed it.
