My next L5S build, stole the body off eBay for about what that select choice flame maple lamtop would cost, it had no control holes drilled from Warmoth factory so I had to add those.

I can't make up my mind about the neck... I could use the mahogany/Brazilian rosewood in the pics below, or order an all Roswewood neck; what do y'alll think?

Does the body have clear gloss on it?  Tough to tell.

That neck is ALMOST perfect... mahogany/brazilian is perfect for that guitar but you gotta get binding to match the body!

Warmoth factory clear gloss on body.  Neck's unfinished and in my stash of parts.  Was thinking about ordering  a neck just like it bound, but have always had bad luck getting matching mahogany necks/bodies when custom ordering and it would have to be ordered that way.

Nice find jack, I kind a like that neck, but I would have to agree with marko that an all rosewood neck would be killer... :icon_biggrin:

Nice find, I'd keep that neck, you won't get as close a match if you order custom and matched mahogany neck/bodies are great.

+1.  At least from here the color match is great.  What pickups?

Probably a Rio Grande BuffaloBucker set

I just don't like L5S bodies without the two F holes. But I see them so rarely!

You pretty much have to custom order. They never seem to do any for the Showcase and the f-holes have to be cut before the top gets glued on to the rest of the body.

Finally got around to getting all the parts for this one; and I picked up an all rosewood neck with the same trapezoid inlays, now the question is, use the rosewood or the mahogany neck? I'm torn but leaning towards the mahogany neck, have a couple of VIP bodies I can use the rosewood Warmoth neck on.

Going all black hardware and a set of SD 59's on this one....

Umm, not to go all zoogly on you - but what is it supposed to sound like?* ??? I have to do certain things in order to veer closest to my idealized tone, and if I was playing a mahogany neck bolted to a mahogany body with some decent PAFies in there, I would be teetering on the brink of "not enough treble" for my purposes. Guthrie Govan and Jimmy Herring play that rig a lot, with an amp's treble control cranked (sounds like it to me anyways). And they sound really good with it. But outside treble boosters were an important part of many an English guitar hero's +PAFie rig even if their necks were glued, unless they used HiWatts or carried a semi full of Vox AC30's in the hopes that one might feel like working that night... I have a long-standing preference to have more treble than I "need" built right into the axe, and have the option of dumping some off later in a variety of ways, somewhere down the pike.

*(Ignore itotally f this is just wall candy - OR... Da Da da DAA - you're making it specifically for tasteful, not-ever-howly "smooth" tones.)

I'll know for sure once I have it all put together, but from past experience there's little difference tonally between rosewood and mahogany necks.

Did you forget to take your meds today, or forgot and took them twice?
