"Next-Gen" Blackguard Tele

Now I'm pissed off... You know how ReRanch cans have paper re-labels on them??? I ordered a Butterscotch Blonde and a Fender Neck Amber on them, apparently got 2 cans of Fender Neck Amber, one labeled as Butterscotch, but obviously NOT...

My bad; heard back from ReRanch; I hit the wrong button and ordered "Butterscotch" (similar to, but a shade darker than Fender Neck Amber) rather than the Butterscotch Blonde I intended.

Moral: Refrain from ordering stuff when you're lit up....

They don't advertise it, but you can get any (unfinished) Strat headstock milled to a Warhead for $45. Opens up a lotta possibilities as there aren't often many Warheads in The Showcase.

That's really good news for me since I'm ordering a neck from the showcase and it's coming with the CBS headstock. I've been sketching out some ideas for a headstock on a paper template, but I like that warhead well enough to use it instead.

Good info, thanks.

The body I was using was a non-Warmoth I got a deal on from eBay; I got the Butterscotch Blonde rattlecan in from ReRanch and when I started trying to sand back the "Butterscotch", the binding started pulling away from the body!!!

I decided to go "all in" on this build and just ordered this as a replacement body from Warmoth:

I like the new one! What is the finishing plan for that?

Body will be Butterscotch Blonde; neck (below) will get shot with Fender Neck Amber. All black hardware and a set of Seymour Duncan '52's...

I may hit that flame with some brown dye and sand it back to make the flame stand out more under the Butterscotch Blonde, anybody ever try that?

I went back and forth on using vintage tint or butterscotch blonde.  They are quite close except the opacity.  As far as dying first and then the butterscotch, I would make sure to seal the dye in.  And there have been a few dark grain filled guitars, I thought, that came out good with the opaque fill from Warmoth.  I'd imagine it would look more like the zebrawood ones.  You might drop Ty a PM and ask if he has tried it, of if he has any suggestions.  I am sure Tonar would be a good source of info as well.

New body and all other parts should arrive this week; bought Mixol Tobacco dye (see below), going to mix some with lacquer thinner to dye the flame top (then sand back) and add to the Jasco paste filler I'll be filling the swamp ash back with. That should really make all that grain pop under the Butterscotch Blonde...

Nice, personally I'd leave it just like that... :icon_biggrin:

It's tempting to go off in any number of directions, but I'm going to dye/sand back and fill the swamp ash grain with dark brown and then shoot Butterscotch Blonde. If that doesn't turn out the way I think it will, I have a shit-ton of sandpaper from my car project and I can strip it and do something else...

I love it! I've been thinking the past week or so about getting a new Telecaster body sometime this year. My idea was pretty much this thread. A "new" Blackguard Tele. Except I'd be using a Maple/Brazilian Rosewood neck I already have and chrome hardware. But the body is almost identical. I've been dying from curiosity over what a flame maple body with black binding would looking like in butterscotch. Google surprised me when it couldn't pull up any butterscotch bodies with binding on them.

Can't wait to see this thing come together! Looks really awesome so far.

Dyed top with tobacco dye dissolved in lacquer thinner; have to wait for it all to dry back out prior to sanding back...

Sanded back, that should make that flame stand out under the Butterscotch Blonde; time to start filling the swamp ash grain on the back...

Swamp ash is filled with Jasco oil-based filler with the Mixol tobacco tint; now I have to wait about a week for it to completely dry/cure before sanding back...
