Newbie Question

I'm not sure anybody is making stands with padding that cheap any more. I think everybody's learned their lesson. Watch out about tape, though, if you find it necessary to use any. Some adhesives are made of rubber dissolved in solvents that will attack lacquer. The solvents are supposed to be off-gassed as part of manufacturing, but small amounts remain. In the short term, they're usually not destructive, but you have to get them off the finish quickly. Don't tape something up and leave it for days.

Thanks, the tip about the tape is a good point to keep in mind.
I usually store my guitars on one of those Fender 5 guitar stands. I might just use a small black piece of cloth as a separation if I use the stand once this guitar's ready.

Well done, you'll have the neck a lot longer than the difference in cash.
Yup, that's what I figured. And being my first time with such an ambitious project, I didn't want to end up getting a neck that needed more work than I planned for.
