On your marks, get set....

I agree with most of your points, but I do not feel that the tuning is the same for both. Floyd roses stay in tune better once they're there, but it takes me much longer to tune them.

I agree with you, but only if you have your vintage trem set to rest flush against the body.

OTOH, if you have it set to tilt slightly forward (aka float), which is the way Fender installs them at the factory and recommends in their user guide, then stretching and tuning the strings would be the same with either system, right?

Maybe I'm just a novice but it seems to take me awhile to center the fine tuners and then get the nut locked down with the right tension. And this is definitely a FR novice problem, but I always seem to move the bridge a little bit when I'm twisting the fine tuners.

Now THAT definitely is a thing: when adjusting the fine tuners, the pressure of your hand pulls the bar slightly out of tune. You have to adjust, and then let go to see where you're really at on an electronic tuner.

I guess I've just learned to compensate for that over the last 35 years. :)

It's a good video either way. The tuning is kind of a separate issue anyways. I would not make my bridge choice based on a two minute differential in string change time, it wouldn't even be a factor.

depends on if your Floyd is floating too.  They are much less stable than one bottomed out and resting on the body.

IF you want easy, I am going out on a limb here....a good Kahler will suit you well, as long as you upgrade to the heavy duty springs.  They eliminate any of the issues with bending causing the other string to de-tune.  Very stable and feels much like my floyd.

Nay....we do not speak of Kahler here. It was selected out of the gene-pool for a reason.

Ha! I keed....I keed.  :icon_biggrin:

I haven't messed with enough Kahlers to know for sure, but I think they just wear out too fast. Feel and work good while they work, though.

Floyds, I'm sorry, just too complex for me.

Very good video, though.

Well, you should. They work well, and take little time to string (no ball cutting, no stringing through the body).

Don't need to clip the ball ends on this one either, and it doesn't even use springs. No routing required. Clearly superior to the Floyd and Kahler. Because they said so. Product lifespan: 2 years.

Doesn't everybody love Kahlers?

Another benefit: in these days of locking tuners, you can just take the fine tuners off (pre-revelation photo).

The old Wonderbar! Do they even make those anymore? Installed a bunch of those way back in the 80's.

Is it faster to change the floyd strangs 1 by 1? I do that unless I need to clean all the shredbutter from the fretboard left by my hands. It's more convenient imo and I don't need to prop up the back of the unit with a shamwow.

I know a lot of people like to do it that way. I'll have to give it a try next time...it makes a lot of sense.

A lot of people like to thread the ball end through the tuners too, so they don't have to clip it. I have tried it that way, and don't like it because the strings don't wrap very neatly around the posts, due to the big fat section immediately after the ball ends where the string loops back on itself. I'd rather just cut them off and keep it neat.

I don't have a dog in this fight, having never touched a Floyd. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy watching the video. I must also add that if I were to choose a Floyd, the extra 2 minutes wouldn't sway me at all.

I was fascinated to learn that Aaron stacks his cards the opposite direction I do when playing solitaire - larger stacks on the left, rather than on the right.  Now, THAT is weird stuff.

Ha! My wife gives me grief about that every single time I play.

I thought I would be safe here, among my friends.....
