New VIP Warmoth in washed Blue Dye

Glorious colour  :hello2:  :kewlpics:

I have a question though ... how the BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP did you manage to get hold of 57/08's ???????  :icon_scratch:

How do they sound ?  :occasion14:

Wolf5150,

The guy who put the guitar together owns a music store and is one of the biggest dealers for PRS and Taylor in the Texas/Louisana Area. He is really good friends with my dad and I,  and got the pickups through a contact at PRS.

I don't have a video up using this guitar, but I have two up using a PRS Sunbust 22 with the 57/08 pickups. They sound GREAT to me. Check it out if you have time. I hope it is okay if I put these here. If not, let me know and I will remove them.

it's very easy to dislike someone  :icon_biggrin:  :icon_biggrin:  :icon_biggrin:  :icon_biggrin:

Are those Sperzel locking tuners? If so how do you like them (and where did you buy them in chrome from)?

My new Warmoth LP is drilled for those, just waiting on the neck finish work to be completed.

The guy who built it, Kelly Barber, had them in his shop.

I'm telling you, this guy has everything guitar related you could possibly ask for, and his store is very personal. It's not like your everyday music store, where everyone seems as if they are working directly out of an employee handbook. If you live in Texas, you MUST to go to his store.

Any other place is simply a money making business machine that only cares about getting your money, and as much of it as possible. This guy actually cares about the people who come into his store. You will never find another shop like it.

Just my two cents.  :tard:

Where's his store at?

:headbang: You really should go down one day. Kelly has over a million dollars worth of Vintage guitars in storage and tons of old amps. :headbang:

If he doesn't put decals on the headstock, would you recommend leaving it alone, or getting some?

I had a guy over the other day to buy a 4x12 bottom I was selling, and of course he wanted to hear it. So, I pulled out my Warmoth Strat and hooked him up, and almost sold that instead of the bottom. He played it for a bit (quite well, I might add) and instead of commenting on the amp or bottom, he said "Where did you find this guitar? What is it?" So, I told him it was a Warmoth that I put together. He was just enthralled by the thing, and the more he played it the more he loved it. Never even pulled out the guitar (looked like a Les Paul case) he brought with him. Said he'd heard of Warmoth, but had never played with one, and always thought they were for the poor of pocket.

So, you might want to leave it naked. Let everybody gape in wonder and amazement. Makes for good conversation, especially since when you say you put it together all the Warmoth goodness reflects on you <grin>

Personally, I don't care too much, and will be putting their name on my builds. I mean, really, they do the hard part. All I do is pick out hardware and electrics, and bolt/solder it all together. Just about anybody who knows which end of a phillips screwdriver and a soldering iron is the useful part can do it.

Getting back to basics, that is an awesome build, congratulations.  One question for you, is the top a unique choice or is it standard flame maple?

Cheers.

It's pretty unique. When we were ordering the parts, Kelly told a guy over the phone to find the best flame maple he possibly could in the warehouse. He came back to the phone saying he had found the most "killer maple" he could find, which you see in the finished product.

It was extra, so the standard flame maple wouldn't be such high grade.

I know Alex's dad online on another forum.  He's been posting videos of Alex playing on YouTube for several years now.  This kid is an unreal player.  Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but you played Eruption on the radio when you were like 13, right?

His dad posted up pics of the body and neck when they came in and they turned out better than I thought they could.  Awesome guitar.

Lucky,

Yes, they played  that on the John Boy and Billy Big Show. That was really cool to hear yourself on a nationally syndicated radio show. :glasses9: My dad showed me some of your post and suggestions on the other forum and I am still going to replace the Pickup rings and knobs with wood ones in the future. Thanks for the compliments on my playing I really appreciate that. :icon_thumright:  I am going to check out some of your other post so I can see some of your guitars.

Lucky,

Have you left the Headstock on your guitars naked? I am partial to the blue one but both the LP's look killer!!!!  :headbang1:

Yeah, I have left them both completely naked.  I have toyed around with some ideas for logos, but haven't put anything on either one yet.  There was a guy here who had a trophy shop use a laser engraver to burn a logo in that he said worked really well.  If I do something, that will probably be what I do.  If I am remembering correctly they can leave it black or fill it with gold or silver.

The blue one is my newer one.  I also have a tele that is still a body and neck that I'll post below.

I think most of my suggestions to your dad were things I ran across here.  This is a great board to go to for gear suggestions and info.  There's several working musicians, some builders, and just some kickass players.  The guy who's guitar is at the top right of the page does some great finishing work.  I believe that guitar is his that he finished personally.
