New video: I Built This Guitar to Play One Song! (Part One)

I love it when people can do things, and I'm like....how can a person do that?

This is the power of the Machinist! Faster than Swiss Screw Machine, More powerful than a Bridgeport Mill, able to leap tall Mazak turning centers in a single bound.
That and aluminium is easy to cut........................................ :icon_thumright:

It is cool how the forum has helped with this build.  :icon_thumright:

Indeed.

I'm thinking it deserves a double-neck follow-up video, where I show all the tweaking that has gone into getting it completed just right, and also pump up Unofficial Warmoth for their hand in it.

It will be a while yet before everything is done, but in a nutshell:
  • Further intonation of the 12-string neck, as it has settled in. It's made a huge difference.
  • Sourcing of the case.
  • I'll be swapping out the 12-string pickups for ones that better match the humbucker: JB Jr. and either a Li'l 59 or Duckbucker. (Should have went with those in the first place.)
  • Design and manufacture of the string retainer.
  • Locking tuners on the 6-string neck.

We-he-hell....lookey what arrived on my desk this afternoon:

I'm absolutely stunned at what you guys have wrought!

You are conjurors...mystics...magicians!

I'll will definitely be doing a follow-up video as soon as all the remaining changes to the double-neck are complete, and throwing much love at the UW community!

Evidently I didn't pay close attention, and didn't get all the machining marks off the top. Some 400 grit sand paper and some elbow grease would polish them out...

Haha....no....what you're seeing in that photo is the crappiness of the camera on my five-year-old phone that was cheap to begin with.

It looks great!

New string retainer installed....works like a charm!

Also:

Locking tuners installed on 6-string side
New pickups installed on 12-string side
Almost intonated (finally)

Just waiting on the new case and then I will shoot a followup video.
