New, unfinished body being delivered. Do I need to use filler?

Ah ok, that makes sense. I wound up actually wipe it on, letting it dry overnight, and then sanding it smooth. Maybe not the best method, but it came out pretty well. There really weren't many grooves to begin with, but I think it's improved.

http://www.reranch.com/solids.htm This is the guide I've been using, which is where I was told to wipe with a cloth, dampened with mineral spirits after 15-20 minutes. Luckily, after doing that the first round, I came to my own conclusion that it was just wiping off what I had done and not really just wiping off the excess.

Tonar, from what I've seen so far, you seem to be THE man for finishing around here. Do you think the method I used of sanding it after it completely dried is ok? (Although I guess it's going to have to be, because I've already moved on to sanding sealer)

There are a lotta solids in grain filler that sink to the bottom of the can if it sits for a while, so when you open it all you'll see is the solvent. Once you mix it up the texture will thicken. Also, word of warning: that sludge at the bottom will snag your mixing stick and if you fight it at all, you'll splash solvent all over the place. So, go slow at first and don't fight it any more than you have to. Then, mix it longer than you think you need to so you're sure everything is evenly dissolved.

I take a good while just holding the can down, and then dipping the stick over and over again & twisting the can until it reaches a consistency to where I no longer have to "force" it to stir horizontally in a figure eight pattern.

If the way you did it worked then that is great. The one thing I have learned after 60 years on this earth is if you ask three experts about any subject you will get five opinions on how to do it. Bottom line if it works it is perfect.  :icon_thumright:
I'm looking forward to some progress pictures.

Thank you for teaching me a new word.  Over at my house we don't spend a lot of time discussing non-Newtonian fluids, but now I know a word to use when we do.

I can't say it comes up in conversation too much here either  :occasion14:
