New Swamp Ash body

I'm not even quite done with my second Warmoth build and yet I dared look in the Warmoth showcase and.... BAM!  Found this lovely thinline Swamp Ash body (no f hole) so here goes another build, it's becoming a bit of a sickness with me.  I'm thinking of making this an Esquire single pickup guitar with a DiMarzio Area T 615 bridge pickup, black pickguard and an unfinished Canary neck.  Probably go with some variety of the Eldred wiring on it.  God help me, apparently I can't stop!  Please share your opinions on this build and on the chances for a cure.

LMAO...yes ship has sailed, you're stuck...

Well, here we are again.  Being a Warmoth junkie I went for a cruise on the website and snatched a cool looking Canary wood strat neck (don't care for the tele headstock).  Not sure if it's gonna match, but it just looked so darned cool!  Vintage tuner ream and SS6105 frets................My checkbook needs help!!!!!!

That's a sharp neck! I'm a big fan of Canary.

If you just ordered it, you still have time for a small change. A neck headstock that looks good on Teles is the Warhead style. Slightly smaller than a Strat headstock, and somewhat more modern looking without that droopy-dick look of a Tele headstock.

They can cut that from a Strat headstock for a $45 adder, so you get to keep the neck you picked out.

I didn't know that. Good to know.
You're a fountain of wisdom  :icon_thumright:

What I did find out by emailing Warmoth, is that they cannot make a Mustang neck with a tiltback head.

Another nice part of that ability is the fact that they make jillions of Strat necks for the Showcase, so if you like Warheads, you have as many varieties of those available from stock as you do Strat necks plus whatever Warheads are in stock.

True, very true.
Although since I'm in the market for a 24" neck, my choices are slightly more limited.
But I'm not complaining. I can finally get the guitar with the neck I always wanted.
Can't wait ... :icon_tongue:

Cagey - I do like the Warhead neck as well as any of the non-strat headstocks out there.  I'm just kinda torn on this one as I wanted to keep a somewhat vintage vibe.  Off to overthink the problem.  HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...............

You do know that the strat heel is not made for the tele pocket, right? I think it can be done, but I hope you weren't thinking it would drop right in there...hope it works out for you--it's lovely stuff!

Warmoth says that it should fit right in. http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Options/GuitarNeckPocket.aspx

Yep, it will definitely fit. it will leave small gaps but with a 22 fret overhang and a pickguard they're almost invisible. Check my Ultracaster for an example.

The Ultracaster was before my time on this forum, so I missed it as it happened. Let me just say belatedly that that is one beautiful guitar – very impressive!!! Am going to have to look into that pickup...

Well I'm not sure how it's all gonna look and fit yet, but it appears that Les Paul approves!!!!!

It was those 'gaps' to which I was referring...for me personally, those breaks in contact within the neck pocket equal a 'doesn't fit', but of course, as with all things GUITAR, to each his own! ENJOY!!

Thanks! I'll take that as a big compliment from the owner of that utterly sublime JM! As for Alumitones, they're certainly interesting beasts. Just don't plug into an amp set to sound good with PAFs or whatever and expect not to go 'yuck'.

OK, time for an update on the build. Ran into a bit of an issue on the neck.  After cleaning up the excess finish the strat neck fits the tele pocket just fine, but the mounting angle would have made the saddles sit way too high, like time to buy longer grub screws high.  Since I didn't wanna do that and the Canary neck was unfinished I spent an evening carefully sanding a taper into the mounting surface of the neck.  A little stressful but it came out fine.  Went with a Barden vintage bridge and a DiMarzio Area T Hot pickup, with a 500K volume and a 250K tone wired "Eldred" style.  Still gotta work on the nut and finalize the setup, and then wait for my bakelite pickguard from Quickguards.  But it's getting closer!  (I wanted to move this thread to work in progress but being an old dum bass found that to be way above my computer skills):)

Edit: I moved it for you - Cagey

:sign13: I sorta wish that W would offer strat neck pocket cuts on the tele/deluxe pickguards so as to cover the corner gaps if one was inclined to put a round heeled neck in the square pocket of a tele...

Day-mun,    Actually Warmoth has done exactly that on my second build.  I custom ordered the body with a strat neck pocket and TV Jones pickups and they made a pickguard to those dimensions.  Also can y'all see the in progress photo's from my last post (anyone?) - I looked at the page from work and could not see the attached pictures.
