New Rick on the way

Yes Nando, it's a Tele neck. Rosewood fingerboard over a maple neck. All the guitar it's going to be filled with chrome harware: Hardtail brige with strings throug the body, Groover tuners, 2 volume and 2 tone pots with black and chrome cap knobs (old style) and a 3 way Gibson style switch for the 2 PAF type pickups. The Pickguard it's going to cover almost all the front, leaving a hole for the bridge.
It's going to be a nice project since I have more money for the next: a crossing between a gibby Trini Lopez and a Yamaha SG, with hollow body, 25" scale neck throug, mahogany core and top and back in flame maple.

For the moment I'm going to stop making Rick style guitars. In my defense, I never made a guitar for sale, all of them (and I made 5 bodies from scratch till now) were gifts or just help a guy to do his project so "I'm not guilty Mr. Judge, I'n a good guy". My next project probably will be a hollow body crossover betwen a Gibson Trini Lopez and a Yamaha SG2000, neck through from Stewmac (I must try to build the neck some day), mahogany center and flame maple top and back. I must save cash for this...

Trivia for you all.  Did you know that Warmoth once offered Rick style bodies and necks?

I tried to place an order - but was politely turned away by the Warmoth sales gent (likely Spike).  You can tell he was rolling his eyes - not at me, but at the fact that he could not sell me what I wanted.

Back from holidays and more work done. The pickguard is full dressed and ready to drill the screw holes and bevels.

While Jorge is working on the wood (contouring the edges and final touchs on the neck pocket) I covered the pickguard with cooper foil and start monting pickups and doing all the electonics.

Contouring the edges. It's a really small radius, done by hand only using sandpaper and elbow grease, old school!!

The same process for the heel. We go for a small radius and give the guitar a first try, after this Jorge is going to decide the final radius and the inclusion or not of a tummy cut and an armrest cut. What do you think about this?

The pickguard meets the body with all the electronics installed. This seems a guitar (almost)!!!

The guitar and a happy new owner. After a short try period we are going to decide to include or not a tummy cut and / or an armrest cut and the final edges radius. After this, disasseble the whole guitar and start with the finishing process. The guitar it's going to be finished in vintage amber with several coats of clear. I keep you posted with the news.

Lookin' good! You should be proud.

One note of caution, though - it's poor practice to handle wood too much if you're going to put a finish it. It will pick up skin oils that are difficult to get rid of, and might make the finish splotchy. Be sure to wipe it down thoroughly with naptha or acetone before you start finishing it.

Thanks for your advice Cagey. It's only going to be a 2-3 days period, just to try how it feels and decide the final touch ups. After this, the whole body it's going to be fine sanded and cleaned (not done for the moment) to eliminate all the residues and start the finishing process.

Back to the job again!!! Here are some more pics: the body has been stained in vintage amber and grainfilled, sanded and stained again to rise the wood figure. Just waiting for the clear coats...
