New Pictures

congrats, now I hope you will stay and contribute .. I have done two builds, with the body's made by me and the necks warmoth. This forum has been a great resource for all my builds/reconditions so I have never felt that it's a warmoth love fest.. just guys/gals that love to build guitars and other stuff sharing ideas/techniques .. Please stay and learn/teach..

I'm not going anywhere for now.  Besides, I still have serious GAS for a Musiclander body ... maybe with Tele bridge and a reverse Tele headstock ... or a traditional Arrow headstock reversed ... or maybe an Allen Collens meets Fender tribute with a Korina body, a P90 bridge, and a mini hum neck ... I am still thinking ... an Explorer with a Tele bridge??  Help!!  I need a drug that can stop the visions!!!  :)

That'll look really nice with a turtle shell on it. Can't wait to see it finished.

My next build parts should be here within the next couple of days. I wanted to get a tortoise scratch plate for it but Mrs. MULLY was helping me pick things out and she like the vintage pearl. Seeing as how I was getting ready to purchase something that she feels I don't really need, since I have so many other guitars, I wasn't going to argue the point of the tortoise vs the vintage pearl. I don't dislike the VP though.
MULLY
and I can always change it later :blob7:

Here are some clearer pictures of 2 of 3 bodies I have received from Warmoth (note, both were bought from the showcase).  For complete details see http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=10219.0.  Does anyone truly believe I am being picky?

It was in the showcase?  So the marks were visible then, right?

I'd guess those marks are the only reason that body ended up in the showcase.  It was probably a body being made to order, and those marks appeared during finishing so it ended up being rejected as less than perfect (either by the customer or more likely by Warmoth prior to shipment.)

Now, I want to see a TV Yellow explorer with a tele bridge.

It was in the showcase with no mention of the marks.  However, when I went back and looked at showcase pictures, the marks were there (barely visible, but they're none the less there).  I was offered a refund, but I choose to keep it anyway.  It's still a gorgeous body.  The flaming is unbelievable.  It's just disappointing that this beautifully piece of maple was mishandled at some point in it's journey.  I refuse to believe that four nearly perfectly shaped rectangles are natural imperfections.  Overall though, the quality of the body is stunning.  My jaw dropped when I first pulled it out of the foam that it was shipped in.  I should also note that I liked my new Warmoth so much that I sold my 1990 Fender '62 US Reissue Strat!

With the 2 spots on the Strat top, did anyone ever determine what they were?  Is it overspray or paint drops, or is it the figure of the wood?  Even as a non-medicated OCD diagnosee, I could live with those.

I'm sure they're natural. They even fall along the contour, where the wood is cut differently, and new marks show.

I don't have a camera that can take a picture close enough.  The is NO WAY they are natural.  The have sharp angles and they do not follow any pattern in the grain.  I really believe someone dropped the wood on a table saw blade, or dropped a circular saw blade on the wood.

I don't know either, but they appear to line up closely with the lines of the flame and there are lighter spots on either side of it.  But there is a reminder in each shipped order to fully inspect each part before any drilling or altering is done.  If the showcase item was misrepresented that's one thing, but the sound the drill makes when making holes for pickguard screws is also the sound of happy acceptance of a product.  So posting a pic (with pickguard attached) and expressing unhappiness don't really jive with each other, IMO.

Now, I seriously think you guys are just rocking my boat.  First, the Strat was my first build.  As I recall (am not going to go looking through posts and emails right now), I built it two years ago.  I have made it very clear in several posts that I am happy with that guitar overall.  I have said several times that I was offered a refund for the Strat body (well before I drilled any holes).  I was disappointed, but I accepted the body anyway.  However, since the blemish is under the finish, I wish that this problem had been noted in the description of the item in the showcase.

Again, here are the reasons why I started these threads:

  • Regardless of what everyone else believes, the Deluxe body that I received for my latest build had a finish problem that I was not willing to accept.
  • The Deluxe body is the second body (out of three) that has had what I believe are obvious blemishes (again this is my opinion).
  • I have had a problem with every order that I have placed for a complete build.  My Strat was the first, and the Deluxe is the third.  The second problem, caused by UPS, was with my Jazz Bass neck.  This string of problems is what leads me to believe that maybe I have just had bad luck.
  • I was unhappy with the amount of time it was taking to get this latest issue resolved.

The process of retuning an item and receiving a replacement can take weeks.  For this reason, it is frustrating to receive an item with a problem.  I do expect there to be imperfections and mishaps.  We are talking about woodwork and finishing here, as noted by others.

I know a return can take weeks, I've had to return something to W before.  Still, I plan on having my build for years, if not forever.  A few weeks extra to have it right is a small price.  A few weeks wait vs. the lifetime of the build being unhappy with it, there's the rub.  So you got weeks of your time back by not returning it, yet there's posts with pics of your unhappiness.  Sounds like they offered to make it right and you didn't want to do it.  I don't know what else to tell you.

What if you are a professional?  Can you afford weeks?  There are builders who source their parts from Warmoth.

The "what if" game can cover anything and everything.  I don't know what they would do, but I've ordered things from said professionals and had delivery times pushed back because of the all encompassing explanation of "back-ordered."

I think some of you are trying way too hard here to snarf something I'd rather not mention.  Those marks don't look in any way natural.  Yes, it was cool of them to offer the refund.  Yes, those marks should have been mentioned in the gallery posting, even if they were somewhat visible.  Oh well.  I just don't get why some of you are trying to demonize the guy for stating facts (aside from the silly name of his other post).  There are multiple instances of people talking down to him without actually reading what he said.  The guy has to recap what he's already said because some of you are belittling him either stating problems with the W process or just because you saw someone else fanboi'ing the thread.

I've probably ordered more Warmoth stuff than any of you (Orpheo included), and I recommend W parts to absolutely everyone I play with, but I've had issues and can say that sometimes the wait seems a tad unreasonable.  Oh well.  I've also had great experiences with W employees (unfortunately usually in getting around company policy :P ).  Bottom line:  They have things they could (and should) improve on to be on par with their wonderful products, but that's not the stuff I tell people.  I let them walk into my den and get lost for an afternoon.  I let them sit behind my PC and drool over the great pics of amazing guitar parts on the W site.  I still will call a spade a spade, and I can't see how any of you could call that blemish a natural one.  Hey, maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Phyg, I'm glad you're happy with your stuff now.  Either you're more of a prissy bish than I am, or you have some insanely bad luck.  Kudos on keeping your sense of humor.
