Sorry, man, me and you are coo, but yeah...that's a little picky...the dots or whatever are...random.  :dontknow:
The solution to that would be either live with it or return it. BUT if you return it, be specific about exactly what you want and be willing to pay extra for high grade wood under that finish.
And yeah...the paint chips on the neck pocket are VERY small man...and as some have said before, can very well be a symptom of how bolt on bodies are finished. They mask off the edge...you got some micro dingleberries in there, but dude they are so small...Just food for thought... they would not show up at all on a set neck or neck through guitar.

You know, I know I can be a little crazy, but I've calmed down and thought of something helpful to say, ahahaha.
YOU sir, seem like a prime candidate for the Unique Choice tops that Warmoth offers. A gentlemen of your...demanding tastes can select the very piece of wood they use! However, due to the handmade nature of the product and the natural variation of the material itself, which is sometimes unpredictable, Warmoth includes the following disclaimer:

The grain pattern and color will change as the laminated top is sanded and finished. You should expect some variation in appearance from the picture shown.
Warmoth's production managers have discretion to choose the way the laminated top is oriented on the body wood for the best appearance and structural integrity.
If while in production the product is found to be substandard, we will not be able to continue with the piece you have chosen.
The charge for selecting a one-of-a-kind laminated top is non-refundable for order returns, changes, or cancellations.

This of course is not available in the Showcase. It's for custom builds only. I think the Custom route is the choice for you, buddy.

on the other hand, Mayfly has a point too...

I have to tell you - I would never worry about those chips/spots.

Too Picky?  Well, you seem to be much more pickier than me.

It does seem that Warmoth cannot do what you expect of them.  However, if Warmoth can't do it - I doubt any one else can.

I drive a Camry, maybe you are a Ferrarri man?  :hello2: just messing around.  :icon_tongue:

Picky? yes. hard to please? yes.

those darker spots are quite likely to be discoloration in the wood. In case you'd forgotten: wood is something from mother nature...

The chips. well...  :laughing11: :laughing11:

jack the hack has a good point that the chipping is likely a case of the tape pulled a bit off, but if i had the choice of
A) a company that personally masked off the neck pocket so no sanding was needed for the neck but maybe with chips at the bottom of it or any other places around the neck
or
B) having to risk sanding the finish off the neck and possibly off the bits around it, and making the pocket screwed
i would take A any day of the month.

and the two spots look likely to be spots on the maple which is a case of whatever mother nature decides for the tree that the wood came from, and warmoth simply use what she supplies, and they cant go chucking out good pieces of maple just because of little marks on the wood, or else they would have a skip of wood that could perfectly be used.

i mean take a look at showcase bodies that arent bookmatched ontop, the variation in grain and such is unbelievable on some, but pretty funky "ive got two different patterns on me!" so a little few spots here and there arent impossible in bookmatched either.

but the advice to go extra and go for unique choice seems suitable for you cause you could tell what the top was before hand.

so yeah you are being incredibly picky on two points that warmoth cant be held responsible for, and a tiny result from something they do to help whoevers building up the guitar.

and no your not talking to a wall, your just talking to people that dont expect mother nature to be perfect and expect paint to come off somehow and when its in such a place, not give a monkeys uncle about it.

have a nice day

Hmm i can see where he's coming from, yea its a bit on the picky side. i believe theres a certain amount of pickiness one can have for the amount paid. For the longest time i've wanted a Framus Guitar just cause they are awesome....Then i saw the price,...then i saw the Custom Shop Price. Here take a look at this...

http://www.framus.de/modules/infos/info.php?katID=11155&cl=EN

Check out the PDF on the pricelist....if you are able to afford THOSE prices, you can be a picky as you want....hell they might even fly you out there so you can supervise the whole damn thing lol.

Granted Warmoth doesnt install LED's of different colors as a custom option under our inlays or design custom inlays for that matter. but they give us what we want at a price we can afford. We cant demand perfection unless we're ready to pay for it, even then theres a chance for error.

PS: yea i cried a little after i saw those prices, after adding up all my specs my Ideal Framus guitar cost about 10K usa dollars.....ouch.....

you are picky but also kind a unlucky. i am also little bit picky i know how you feel =)

but consider them as evil eye charms, they are there protecting your guitar from further scratches, dings etc.

actually i dont believe in evil eye charms  :laughing11: i'm just trying to make you relax...

GoubleG does sort of have a point.  The first ding on a guitar hurts the most.  Once it transfroms from showroom perfect to a "player," each subsequent scratch gets easier and easier to handle.

Back in the 1980s I bought a brand new Taylor 615.  Beautiful guitar.  When I went away to school my brother Willie Nelson-ized it with some aggressive playing.  I was furious at the time, and he eventually bought the guitar from me in installments.  All I could see at the time were those horrible scratches marring my beautiful Talor.

I somehow got the guitar back a few years ago, and the top has aged to such a beautiful golden honey color. The scratches that once stood out so badly now blend right into the twenty-something year old guitar.  You can still see them, but due to the way the entire guitar has aged, they no longer stand out as a defect, and now look like a natural part of the guitar.

Thats part of the problem with new guitars.  They are so precious that you sweat every little thing.  But nothing stays new forever, or as Neil said, rust never sleeps.

personally i like a little wear and tear on  my guitar, it makes it more playable and less intimidating to handle. not to mention those little defects you come to appreciate (unless its hideously ugly, which in your case its not at all) i mean my warmoth les paul has a crap load of dings on it but i find that im able to create more on an instrument that i really dont have to tip toe around ya kno?

Wood is imperfect, and perfection is unattainable.
You are going to give yourself an ulcer.

I can't believe this!  The replacement body arrived today and there are friggin' huge holes all over the front of the body!

Seriously, yeah I am good now.  The body looks great.  I kind of lost it there a few days ago.  :)  I got a polite e-mail from Rob yesterday.  He said the body was shipped on the 23rd.  I don't know why I didn't get a Quantum View e-mail.  It didn't go to junk mail.

I didn't really like the black pickguard so I ordered a tortuous pickguard to be shipped with the body, but I didn't receive it.  Not sure what happed there.  As far as I can tell, my card wasn't charged so maybe it was missed.  Anyway, I am not really unhappy about that.  The neck pocket has nice cleanly masked lines now  :)

This typo makes me feel all warm inside. It's just right.

Glad things worked out with the Tele body!
