Because some of you do not know how to work and play with others or know when to walk away from a senseless argument.

I've never had such a problem with anyone on the internet that I felt the need to block them out. :tard:
If I have a problem with a thread, I just leave and read something else.

I feel like this is seriously going to detract from the board.  Like if someone has one outburst because of...say...a bad day at work and another someone decides to "ignore" them, whenever the first person actually has something good to say then the person who ignored him will not see his comment, nor will any others who may have decided to ignore him...seems like a bad idea to me..

Just IMHO.  :dontknow:

Hmm can't see anything here ...??

:icon_jokercolor:

Seriously - now I know why I do not get any answers or comments any more. So why do I write here?  :dontknow: :icon_jokercolor:

I'm sorry... what did you say? I was ignoring you.

Not opposed to it, it's too bad that we have to have it, just think it shouldn't be in such a prominent position.  It's rather distracting.  Maybe it would be better if it was closer to the "report to moderator" button and a bit smaller.

Allow me to elaborate a bit.

This is a long requested feature that I have been reluctant to implement.  My preference is always for self censorship over administrative action.  If you don't think you can behave or control yourself, don't get started.  However, I realize arguing is a competitive sport for some, regardless of the impact to the community or others.  For this reason, we're going to give the Ignore button a shot.

Tempest, you bring up a good point and I hope forum members would use the button only as a last resort.  We're all human and can have a bad day or words can be taken out of context.  Line6, remember there are always at least two sides to any story.  You may not have problems with other posters, but some may have problems with you.  (Not singling you out, but it made for a convenient illustration.)

It was smaller at first, but they quickly made it bigger.

OK...so if we have to have it, why can't I ignore the moderators?  :icon_jokercolor:

Only kidding  :laughing7:

Is anyone really going to be a no-no and ignore someone?

Who among us is going to be the first one to get all emotional and shut out the person who hurt their feelings on the internet?

I do NOT get emotional, Mr. I-can't-see-your-posts-any-more.

The feature doesn't get used as much as you might imagine. Forum designs like this one already make it difficult to follow a conversation, so if you start missing messages, it gets even harder - the responses stop making any sense at all when you can't see what instigated them. The hope is that people learn to act like adults and mentally ignore those who bother them. Trolls typically go away if there are no responses to feed on. It takes some load off the moderators and puts it on the participants, which is ideally where you want it. Makes for a more civilized board.

I'm going to hold back my tears and just hit ignore.
I won't have to deal with your troublesome comments any longer.

So what happens if I someone quotes something that was posted by a person you are ignoring?
Does the quote get ignored too?
What if someone you are ignoring posts a thread, and others respond to it?
Will the whole thread be blocked?

I can see myself putting some Ignore on some people... Some guys bring 50% good stuff and 50% BS, other come 97% BS and only 3% good stuff...

Gadly that they are the minority of the forum...

I'm all for it - this will help keep the crybabies who can't handle reality (people disagreeing, people arguing, etc)... placated.   :icon_thumright:
