New ignore feature?

OK let's focus on the topic, which is the Ignore Options Feature of this board........You won't see the comments of people you chose to ignore, but if they make comments and you don't login you can still see their comments....doesn't really defeat the issue of having problems with what a user might be saying, does it?  :dontknow:

Kinda half cocked.  :icon_scratch:

(Sorry if I am going over old ground, but until I got ignored by someone I had no need to know about this feature too much)

That is rather chilly. Glad the buses have heating, I guess.

And Gary, that's cool. You've got a demo online, right? I think you gave me a link or something.

Chilly My Arse!

We got -18C last winter, and I'm sure Andreas could tell you a thing or two about cold weather  :icon_jokercolor:

Ran across this just now, and it somehow seemed appropriate:

Ya know it occurs to me, the best ignore would be a moderator option. These two can't play nice, so I'm going to set them to ignore each other.

The internet has the tendency to upset the natural order of things due to its ability to
cloak the identities of those who contribute.  Examples such as:

- the prolific poster who posts about nothing much; has the biggest number of posts... is deemed an "expert"
- the teenybopper who lives in his mom's basement suddenly speaks with authority to dudes thrice his age
- the ego-stroker who is followed around by his entourage of brown-nosers... would be exposed for the douche he is IRL
- average posters who use a forum to chit-chat about daily life yet never contribute anything of value... are well-respected in subject matter
- a dude could know jack squat about a particular subject, yet somehow have the "knowledge" to try to "dress down" those more experienced

And on and on it goes... then there's the douchebag cliques, the separate web forums for the "cool kids", the alliances and broken alliances,
the scratching of backs, the arse-kissing, etc etc etc...

It all adds up to the dumbing down of society... instead of learning/educating, it turns into a bunch of squawking hens fighting
over people politics crap; making their dastardly schemes and sh!tting all over the place.

So, sometimes, the good hard b!tchslap of reality is necessary to bring things back to equilibrium.   :icon_thumright:

I concur in many of your observations, save the quoted one above.  This is not the dumbing down of society.  This is just what happens when groups of humans interact.  Always has been.

Equilibrium doesn't occur when living things are involved.  Technically, equilibrium is when life stops.  So if it is a cell, or a message board, by your definition, reality would be a force for the cessation of anything further.  To me, this is an argument that tends to emphasize the, "Know It All."  This doesn't take into account that reality is largely a matter of perception, so your results may vary.

Adding to the above:

Reality can be a matter of perception with the distinction of an individual's own perception (of course).

However, there is of course, aside from an individual's own perception - actual reality.

Along the lines of the aforementioned subject matter, this actual reality states that so-and-so individual either has
or doesn't have particular experience(s).

I, for example, could pretend to have experience in guitar finishing (of which, in actual reality, I have none)
and attempt to call Tonar (again, for example) a liar or ridicule his suggestions/corrections/instructions.  Now
why would I do such a foolish thing?  It's simple, really:  the majority of men are far more interested in looking
good to others than in keeping the spirit of learning and instruction alive.  In simpler terms, it's people politics
and has nothing to do with facts or gaining knowledge.  Tonar has the experience; I do not.  Therefore, actual
reality would prove me wrong in this example.

Furthermore, there's nothing wrong in knowing what you're talking about and stating as much... if it's true.

"It ain't bragging if you can do it" - Dizzy Dean, MLB pitcher

It's only "bragging" to those who do not possess said faculties/experience and therefore suffer from envy.

Some of us take gear and tone very seriously... even to the point of making sure
BS (put forth by envious prikks, dishonest manufacturers and brownie-point seekers)
is contained and corrected.

The only thing we really want to promote is fact - why?  Because it's pretty
difficult to perfect your own gear/tone when your head is full of misinformation.

...and in many cases it saves you $$$.   :laughing7:

I generally consider information on the internet to be crap, and seek advice and opinions from people I know in real life who are also players.  Exceptions are made for internet people I know to be players, and no one isn't a fanboi of something or other.  My question isn't about tone, it's about "why try to polish a turd?"  Total accountability isn't important, and no one will ever be "right."  I build/play/buy as much as anyone on here, probably, and while there are things that I absolutely believe, I know two things:  1) Morons choose to be that way, and I'm at least 10% moron.  I can't convince them of anything.  2) I'm not afraid to ask stupid questions, because I don't mind looking foolish.  It makes me a better player, builder and person; being willing to grow.

Kids these days, huh?

Same as it ever was.  If  folks weren't complaining about what a mess the upcoming generation is, something would be very wrong.  It is the job of youth to question the conventional wisdom of its elders. It's also the nature of human beings to form groups and isolate the nonconformists - whether the nonconformity is benign or otherwise.

Bringing this one to a close.

- The Ignore feature is not perfect in every way, but it is the best that is available for this forum.
- I see a lot of baiting by several parties that is not advancing this thread.  Chill pill.  Get away from the computer and enjoy the summer.
