Congrats! I'm sure you're going to be very happy. Those are magical units.

It looks intimidating  :icon_scratch: Is it a actual amp? what kind of speakers do you hook up to it? Looks fun!! Congrats!

Congratulations Kuro.

It's a high end modelling and FX processor, Axe FXII. It has models of somewhere around a hundred different amps, including Marshalls, Dumbles. Fenders, Vox etc etc. and lots of effects. It has no power amp or speakers included but has flexible I/O options to hook it up.

Speakers can range from active studio monitors, or for live use full range flat response monitor type systems along with FOH PA. Or a power amp and guitar cab can be used. In the latter case, the cab and/or power amp modelling is then not used.

You can also use it as a Soundcard and headphones and it makes the ultimate MP3 jamming tool for your PC.

The answer above is the tip of the iceberg and the unit can be complex. However it doesn't have to be, it is as simple or as complex usually as the user wants to get with it.

Pretty amazing piece of equipment. I looked it up. Thanks for the summary stratmania. Lookinf it up I saw that even Steve Vai endorses it so it must be good  :icon_biggrin: But for real I want!!

Congrats Kuro Uma I am interested to hear what setup you use with it and your feelings on the results from you play!

Your welcome, I used to own one for about two years. I needed to raise some cash and haven't got around to a replacement. They are very good indeed, there is also the Kemper which approaches things slightly differently.  More cost effective options would be Line 6 HD series or an Eleven Rack.

We are spoilt for choice these days :-)

I'm going to go with an FRFR setup. I've got a MFC-101 Mk.III on the way from Fractal. A GT800FX and FR212 coming from Matrix. I'm still deciding which rack case I'll go with. I'll order a 50ft Ethercon cable, power conditioner etc to start off. Then I'll need a road worthy case/pedal board for the MFC and a few expression pedals.

I've only just played with the presets so far though my powered studio monitors and headphones. But I'm impressed with the "feel". It responds like a tube amp to rolling back gain and to light touch and picking. It's almost creepy that it comes out of a little black box. I have a feeling I'm going to love it. Especially the use of scenes in live shows. no more tap dancing.

I've got shows this weekend and work has had me slammed. But I plan on diving in once the rest of the gear gets here next week. Seems IR's are a very important part of this setup so I'll get into the Cablab and cab downloads and start tweaking.

grats, they're fun to noodle with.. :guitarplayer2:

If you haven't removed the protective plastic from the screen, share that experience with a fiend, each get a corner and peel it off together...It's like undressing a new girlfriend... :laughing7:

Cool, IRs or Cabinet impulses do contribute a lot to the sound. If you put just an amp on the grid or take a simple preset and disable the cab block the sound will change to a large degree.  The stock IRs do work fine by the way. I wonder how many real amps get bought and sold when a change of speakers  may have achieved what the tone hound was looking for.

My recommendation is to get familiar with the basic parts of the unit and what they can do prior to getting really deep etc.  You may or may not have to go into the more deep parameters. Nowadays I doubt it's that needed. But you know some users tweak because they like to tweak.

This is a good video you might want to take a look at. It's a couple of years old now and some of the values mentioned may have changed in the latest firmwares but it gives a good idea.

Also look out for presets from Fremen, which can be quite complex.

My plastic was removed, but I did keep it and passed it on when I sold the unit. Who knows I may get another.

It's amazing the technology that is out there today for us players.  Congrats on what looks to be a complete tone machine!  :cool01:

No kidding. I have that unit and I gotta tell you, it's an amazing piece of gear. Absolutely magical. Nothing else comes close. Highly recommended.

I've already made presets for the bands I play in.

As a test for this unit I tried an experiment. With one group of songs I use a 6505+ with a Mesa 412 with v30's.
I dialed in the same amp and cab in the AxeFx and I cant tell the difference. I did the same for all my other groups of songs and it's simply amazing. The scenes make it so I'm no longer tap dancing. The FR212 projects like a full stack.

I can see how this unit might be intimidating to some but it's really easy to use. Being an IT professional might skew my perception of how easy it is to use. And I've used other modelling unit before but never one that actually fooled me into believing it was a tube amp.

I'm going to workout exactly how I want to configure my foot controller setup, but I would take this rig out right now. In fact next week I'll be using it live for the first time. I'll report back.

Happiness! You must be very pleased.

I'm a little envious of the FR212. Trying to make up my mind whether I want one of those or an Atomic CLR. The Atomic is supposed to have better dispersion angles, but the Matrix moves more air. Atomic seems to have trouble with deliveries, which is a little off-putting. When I order things, I expect them to show up in 1 to 3 days, not 5 or 6 months. If I wanted it 6 months from now, I'd order it 6 months from now.

If it helps the Matrix stuff was ordered on Monday and was here around 9:45 A.M. on Wednesday. I stand it up on end and then place the rack on top. Takes up less room than a 412 and i haven't noticed any issues being off center. It sounds like a full stack behind me. Turning around surprises me every time so far.

I suppose the worst thing that could happen is I'd have to flip it, but I doubt I'd lose much on the deal. They're highly desirable units.

Hi Cagey, if it helps at all I have met a few of the guys from Matrix a couple of times. They really do stand behind the products and so forth. I would suppose Atomic does do too but the wait time etc is a factor.

Kuro, that's great that you have the tones you need sorted quickly.
