Run a model of a Vox AC30 or Fender Twin into an actual 412 fulla EVMs or Celestion V30s or something, and it's not gonna sound anything like an AC30 or a Twin. It'll be a whole different animal.

You make it sound as if that's a bad thing  :)

Hehe! Yeah, well, Tastes vary. I don't think it's a Bad Thing, it's just different. Could be a Good Thing. Depends on what you wanna hear.

what do most people run these modeling units to when playing live?  I would think a good solid state power amp and cab.  Or directly into a PA?
Directly into the PA.  At most places I monitor using IEMs. Where that is not possible, I have a number of FRFR wedges.

I've had my Helix for almost two years now, and I'll go on record saying it's the best amp-style purchase I've ever made. It sounds great right out of the box, and if you load some good IRs into it, it sounds even better. The models are as close to having a real tube amp as I've come across yet. The touch response is fantastic, it cleans up "right" when you roll down your volume, and the signal path options are practically endless.

Now, I haven't ever tried an AxeFX, so I'm not qualified to compare and contrast the two, but I can honestly say that there hasn't been a single moment in the past two years that I've regretted buying my Helix even a little bit.

Enjoy, man!  :rock-on:
