I ran into Steve Morse for the fourth time a couple of months ago.

did you go to one of the flying colors concerts??? I am still upset they didn't play near me.. one of the best albums of the year!!

I can't believe I've missed this thread.  I've met lots of "famous" musicians over the years:

Kris Novosellic, Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl of Nirvana, all separately.  All cool stories.

Kurt at Pietro's Pizza on Hosmer in Tacoma right after Bleach came out.  I was hanging out with some older guys in a band I liked (coincidentally, the bass player from Death Cab For Cutie was in that band at the time), and they drug me along to meet this guy from this band they wanted to play with.  All I remember is that he smelled really bad and had long, brown hair.

Dave I met through a drummer friend of mine in Edmonds who I was playing in a funk band with.  He delivered pizzas, and had delivered to Dave a few times.  I was in town, and he put a pizza shirt on me and let me deliver it.  Dave tips well.

Kris I met at two separate social justice events.  The first was really cool; he sat next to me in the middle of a speech, we watched a couple bands play, and he turned to say a few things to me about the music.  After the event was over, he thanked me for not treating him like "a star," and he commented on how attractive my girlfriend was when she headed to the restroom.  I asked him to write her a personalized note to that affect, and he did.  The next event we were at together, a couple years later, he remembered me and made a point of coming over to shake my hand and say hi.

I've also met:
Mighty Mighty Bosstones (hung out with them at Warped Tour)
Suicide Machines (same deal; the singer was vegan and helped me get some vegan grub since i was at the time)
The Misfits (sans Glen obviously; they got me and that same girlfriend into a sold out Misfits/Gwar show... got to watch Jerry Only work out for a while and tried to make him laugh while he was powerlifting)
Soundgarden (just before the Badmotorfinger tour)
Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam (super nice guy)
NoMeansNo (I played catch with them out back of a club in Tacoma lol)

Lots more punk guys, but I'm sure no one here cares~

I met Andrew Bird and got to talk to him for about 10 minutes.  That's really all I could have asked for.

Wow, that's really awesome. Andrew Bird is probably my favorite live musician. How did you meet him?

Though not famous for guitar playing, I met Minnie Pearl when I was 10.  I can't remember if it was in Memphis or Nashville.

The other night, I went to see Rusty Burns.  He's a local legend in DFW.  He a lefty, plays a lefty instrument, buy it's strung righty with bass string on bottom.  His rig is a bit weird for one associated with tone chasing.  EMGs through a Line 6 effects processor pedal board into a solid state Line 6 amp.  Close your eyes, you'd never know.  It ain't the gear.

Hovering at 60 and being in the Dallas area, he has quite a few SRV stories.  One being, Stevie auditioned to be the 2nd guitar player in Point Blank but wouldn't budge about doing anything but the Blues.  He was also coked out of his mind.  Him Jimmie Vaughan stories are that in the late 70s, Jimmie Vaughan was the guy that played everyone off the stage.  Think of anything Stevie could do or is known for and Jimmie did it better.  He said at some point, a switch flipped and it wasn't cool to do that.  He just wanted to dress cool and support a band.

When I met Jimmie Vaughan as the T-Bird's guitarist (1980), the switch was definitely flipped. He acted like nothing after 1963 had ever happened, no Hendrix, no Rolling Stones, certainly no "southern rock." Duckass hairdo, drove an old beater Ford (not classic, just OLD) never played solos... this was a few years prior to the Stray Cats making rockabilly cool, so a lot of people just thought the Thunderbirds were really, really weird. SRV and Eric Johnson were breaking out in different directions - it required a scorecard to calculate who was hip, in those days.

Just met Glen Campbell a few weeks ago. That was a thrill, joked about where we both grew up in Arkansas.

Also met Axl Rose and Kenny G. (I know not guitar players but while in the process of name dropping). Slash and Dave Grohl live here and I hope to meet them too  :laughing7:
I love my job.

I would have had to ask Mr. Campbell, in a nice way of course, about his time in tent city.  He was apparently very intoxicated and got pulled over for drunk driving here in Phoenix.
Tent city is our local sheriffs Joe Arpaio friendly outside jail in a bunch of tents.  He had to spend two weeks enjoying Joe's hospitality.

I got to shake hands with George Bensen last Saturday and he gave me the guitar pick he used all night.  Not normally my cup of tea, but I received a couple tickets to his show as a gift.
It was in a small venue and the tickets were front row exactly center seats.  George did a tribute to Nat King Cole with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and played about 8 feet in front of me all night.
It was a really good show.

I had a good night a few months ago.  Started out with a meet & greet with The Robert Cray Band.  I had done this before with Robert, but it was just a quick handshake and take a picture.
This time the band spent about thirty minutes shooting the bull with twelve of us.  It was much better...

Then after Robert, I got to shake hands with BB King and he gave me a hand full of his guitar buttons.  BB is not doing well.  He sat down all night and would just play a few licks now and then in each song.
Hey, the man has paid his dues.

Then after BB, I got to trade guitar picks with Susan Tedeschi of the Tedeschi Trucks Band.  I had never seen her before and was very impressed.
Overall, just a fantastic night :headbang1:

Don't care about Axle or Kenny, but Grohl and Slash would be cool. Both of them seem really grounded and people persons... :dontknow:

Best post-punk/jazz/punk/umm/post? band name ever:

The Dead Kenny G's!

they suck, but with a name like that... :party07:

Robb Flynn from Machinehead after a show, Jason and Mike from Godhead when my old band for them (2003ish) and I should meet Chris Letchford on the 28th for the Scale the Summit show.

I got to meet Johnny Winter last night at a little club here in Phoenix.  Johnny can rock those slide blues like no other, but he certainly is not doing well physically...
However, he is doing better.  I saw him two years ago in Tucson and two guys helped him onto the stage to sit in a chair the entire show.  When the show was over, the same two had to help him off stage.
This time he walked (very slowly) by himself on stage to his chair and off stage at the end of the show.  I watched the entire show about 10 feet from Johnny and it was a great show indeed!
I got to meet Johnny after the show and shake his hand.  He also signed my lazer guitar, so overall it was a great night :headbang1:

back in the late 80's early 90's i had the great pleasure to meet and have my home made guitar autographed and a handshake from:
joe satriani
and then,
george lynch

That reminds me, I met George Lynch's father (Bob Lynch) when I was the bass player on a cruise ship some 20-something years ago, and Bob had been hired essentially as a staff gigolo. I am not kidding, that cruise line hired a handful of middle-aged men to mingle, socialize, dance, and otherwise entertain the single female passengers.

So Bob Lynch would come waltzing around the dance floor with some matronly passenger in his arms, give all of us on the bandstand a wink, and then a few hours later come by the crew lounge and start up conversations with lines like "So, have you guys ever played in front of 80,000 people at a stadium in Rio? My son has."

Every. Freakin'. Night.
