I understand what you did. What happens, though, is the string doesn't follow that angle. It goes in straight from the back and wants to keep going straight. There's nothing to prevent that until it hits the baseplate of the bridge. You can't direct the string at that point, so you just keep poking the bridge plate's underside until you start to question your sanity. If the hole were angled all the way down from the top to the back, then you might have a chance, but it'd still be a pain in the shorts stringing the thing.
On the other hand, since you can rear-load the strings on the bridge, then you're all set.
