I don't find recording enjoyable. only annoyable. it annoys me that whatever I hear in my head, I can't put it on record/tape. but if I play 'live' I do hear what I want to hear.

Most people are the other way around. They can get want they want & hear more easily on tape than live since it's a conrolled environment with infinite tries to get something just right. Live is more fun, but you have once shot at something & there are too many variables. They're really totally different animals & can't be compared.

If you ever get around to buying a cheap $10 cam, you could always do videos comparing the various guitars you have & how each wood combo sounds differently since you have so many Les Pauls.

Use the webcam and microphone on your computer to post a YouTube of two minutes of playing.
That's all we ask.

don't know how to use that... and I'm not willing to spend my precious (playing time ;) ) to learn ;)

DUDE, it will iterally take you 5 mins to set up & use a cam. You plug it in, point it at yourself & press record.

That's how I record all of my youtube videos. They're not state of the art high quality videos, but they give you a good idea how something sounds.

Do it!!!!!  :headbang:

forget it. Don't wanna do it. it will completely annoy the heck out of me. it will frustrate me because how I'm hearing it right there and then, is not the way it sounds on cam.

so, no clips. never. ever. don't ask, don't tell.

Do you at least have live clips?

How can someone have so much gear & no recordings?  :icon_scratch:

Good question.

It makes more sense than someone having so many recordings but no gear.

Good question.

Guys, chill. He doesn't wanna post clips. Don't force him.

What yall need to do is send him recording gear for his birthday.  :icon_jokercolor:

well... lets put it the other way around.

Your wife has how many colors of nail polish, perfume, lipstick, high heels and handbags?

my girlfriend has, respectively, 12, 5, *don't know so many*, 5 and counting, 9.
my mum has approximately and respectively, 40, 25, 60, 120 and 15.
my sister has approximately and respectively 35, 15, 30, 40 and 20.

does that mean they're supermodels? does that mean they go down a (arbitrary) runway each week-end?

no; they like the colors, they (like to) collect. and the same with me.

Other example. A guy has a porsche, ferrari and a lambo. does that mean he wants to enter F3-racing? not necessarily.

So with me: I play for MY joy, MY pleasure. and I like to share my new guitars and amps with others, cause I figured that others might enjoy watching my gear as much as I enjoy watching other people's gear. I don't ask for clips, but if they're there, ok, thats fine. so since when did clips became mandatory with having (a lot of) gear? I think I missed that memo somewhere along the line (ps: marko, I haven't seen or heard a clip from you either).

I don't buy recording equipment, because I don't want to. Why should I buy something that I don't particularly need nor want? I don't want to buy a new fridge or a new couch, but I HAVE to; I need to keep my milk cool (sorry, sorry: beer) and I need a place to sit. I don't want to pay rent, but I need a place to keep my guitars, amps, cats, dvd's and whatnot sheltered. I don't want to buy a new bike, but I have to, I have no other means of transportation (its the cheapest and fastest within a radius of 15km, at least, in Amsterdam!).

So, once again, please come with good arguments why I should make some recordings. I already dismissed the 'because-we-wanna-hear-your-gear-and-wanna-laugh-at-how-lousy-you-play-with-so-much-expensive-shit' argument.

Dude, you're taking this too seriously. We're all impressed by your vast collection of awesome gear & were hoping to hear some of it in action.

Yes, a cam recording will not be perfect, but it is what it is; a quick way to share & show your gear to others, & imo, no different than taking the time & trouble of taking multiple pics of all of your gear to post on a forum. It's just a way to share with your online guitar pals!!!  :occasion14:

But really, I would secretly invest $30 for a recording program & a shure SM57 mic & try it out. You'll be amazed how accurately it will capture the tone you hear in the room.

Either way, you have a ton of really cool gear.  :icon_thumright:

Maybe he's actually Jimmy Page, and doesn't want to give himself away <grin>

I can understand not wanting to record, though. For one thing, it's a pain in the ass. For another, it's very rarely ever satisfying. All you hear are 8.2 million mistakes, bad choices, bad timing, the list is long. Once you've done a bit of it, it's easy to see how some bands spend months in the studio.

But, that's usually just the band or maybe even one player who's overthinking the whole thing. Then, there are some guys can pull stuff off first take, and you could record them live and have it be great. Robin Trower comes to mind... you go see him live, and it's almost like listening to the CD. He's just spot-on. Of course, he probably doesn't think so.

I remember the last time I played live to a good-sized audience. I came off stage thinking that had to be the worst example of my playing to ever vibrate the atmosphere. But, then you get out into the audience and everybody's all
