Just got my custom made Fiesta Red '54 P Bass with a matte black pickguard.  But I bought my tele control plate from Guitar Parts Factory, another place I love.  But the tele plate and the pickguard do NOT match!  Is it required that I use the Warmoth control plate?

Well, nothing is required and I have no direct experience of the particular parts in question. But you will increase your chances of parts matching if sourced from the same place.

There are lots of variants of things so it can happen.

Just saying... A telecaster control plate and a '54 bass control plate are completely different items.  A Tele control plate won't work no matter who you bought it from.

ghotiphry, Yeah, the control plate you have listed as the '54p is exactly what I have from GPF.  Their website has it listed as the Tele bass control plate.  And I meant Tele bass, not Telecaster guitar control plate.  But the plate doesn't fit into the pickguard.  I'll take a pic.

Warmoth specifies on their website that their pickguards doesn’t retrofit any other body than their own. As can be seen here for the 54 P-bass (the red warning sign). That means that a control plate from another company - a control plate meant to fit said pickguard - probably won’t fit. Since that control plate is meant for a Fender pickguard.

@Logrinn

I did read that, however I read that more meaning the body than anything.  But if that's the case, I'll have to order the Warmoth one.  Thanks.

Sorry to get semantic on you, just checking.  I can at least vouch for the plate from Warmoth fitting correctly.

Thank you everyone.  I'll probably go ahead and order that, and I also downloaded the template, just to make sure the pickguard is consistent with the Warmoth drawing.
