Neck width vs PU width

Just curious, is there a neck width which begins to be an issue for PU's, as in to wide a neck, causing wider string spacing, and so I'm wondering is there a point where the string spacing is detrimental to the PU's functioning properly (since the PU pole spacing is fixed, and perhaps even a standardized spacing?), i.e. picking up the string vibrations properly? Or is the magnetic field created large enough for even a 2" neck and a non issue?

If you look up trembucker there's a whole lot of stuff.  It's more a problem with bridge widths and the bridge pups

It's not a functional problem; it's an aesthetic problem. The side-to-side alignment of strings to pole pieces doesn't matter unless it's much farther off than you can actually get it.

To elaborate on Cagey's post, the magnetic fields are wider than the pole pieces themselves, so direct visual misalignment does not necessarily translate to lack of output/volume balance across strings.  Although it can, hence "trembuckers."

I'm super OCD, so rails appeal to mean - alignment issues are non-existent!  :blob7:

I have a ordered a 1 7/8" Superwide Warmoth neck to go with that very beautiful blue thinline body I bought.
And that gets us firmly into which pickups to use bearing in mind the string spacing at the neck!
My OCD requires that the strings are centred on the pole pieces.
So I will be using a 'rails' pickup for the neck.
But which one? Decisions Decisions Decisions.
I am torn between a Joe Barden set and  Lace Sensors.
