Hello everyone!

I've just ordered a 4-string white korina jazz body with 1/4" zebra wood top. And now I want to find matching in sound and design neck.

I already have a StringRay4 and Alder/Maple/Rosewood Jazz basses. So I don't need agressive and vintage. I'm searching for soomething more modern and smooth.

Can you give some advices. And it will be nice to hear some sound samples.

P.S. I'll use Bartolini 9CBJD1 pickup set and Sadowsky outboard preamp if it helps.

"Modern and smooth" doesn't really tell us anything. The two terms are not only vague, but entirely subjective. What specifically do you want the bass to sound like?

Personally, I'd stick with an Ebony board to keep the focus on the Zebrawood.
Maybe a Wenge neck shaft is in order?

In sound I'd like to get something around this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqzL3G7J-rk
It's first I've found :)

I also wanted to build a korina body bass. I'd go with wenge/ebony or wenge/pau ferro neck with graphite rods.

The only thing I'm afraid of is balance of korina body and wenge neck. Any thoughts?

The steel rods and truss rod almost definitely contribute more to the weight than the wood. If you're worried, go with the Schaller BM Lights or Hipshot Ultralights for the tuners. Plus, the jazz body is offset such that neck-dive is less of a problem.

Specify the weight you want in your order. Depending on the stock they have they can find a light or heavy piece of wood. The lighter the pricier it will be...

Graphite rods and lightweight tuners will help neck dive.

A Jazz body will have neck dive if the neck/tuners are heavy, I know from personal experience.

Ordered showcase Wenge/Bubinga neck. Going to Siberia woohoo :)

There's been some really nice bubinga in the bass showcase. Better than the current "unique selection" IMHO. What frets are you going with? Any?  :glasses10:

Yes, that bubinga seems to be very nice.
6105. Actually, I don't know why. Warmoth says they're the most popular choice :)

I'm not great in image manipulation but it shows the idea.

Got that amazing neck today. Bubinga is really awesome looking fingerboard wood! Neck is much heavier than my maple non-Warmoth jazz neck. Body is also going to be heavy.

I'm going to put some lemon oil on fingerboard. Should I put some king of oil wenge part of neck?

For as porous as Wenge looks, it's really a very dense and naturally oily wood so it's not going to absorb any additional oil. Whatever you put on it is just going to congeal in the pores and make the thing gunky. So, I'd resist the urge to take care of that which will take care of itself.
