Hi , does anyone have any info to share on the strength of a neck heel regarding how much "full (body) thickness" or lack thereof is left by the cutting of a shape from a blank. For example, on a Strat, the lower horn is cut back towards the bridge for high register access..to the point that there is only an inch or less of "full (body) thickness" surrounding the neck on that lower side. On the upper horn (or left upper bout) the neck heel has "full body" thickness for the entire length ..or most of the neck heel. Lets say that i cut a body where both sides resembled the lower horn on a strat with less material. Whatever thickness is left ...the neck heel....protruding out like a rectangle from my body shape....do we think i could run into problems with the heel snapping off under string tension? my guess is it will be plenty strong but having a hard time finding info there without a full-fledged venture into the physics of Alder. any shared info/ experience appreciated.
