That's New (Old) Neck Day of course.

Even given my reduced circumstances, I couldn't resist this when it came up. It started out as a bargain and then got better, with the tuners and delivery thrown in when repairs were delayed a little.

I've always been a little hesitant about goncalo alves, as it can look a little 'rawhide' for my taste - you know, like you can use it for both kinds of music. Other times though, it's just smooth, stripy goodness.

Part of my current 'plan' is to try to make and sell some slightly tricked-out Tele (and maybe, Jazzmaster) bodies, so I need a neck to test stuff out, right? The body shown in the last pic is a poplar (tulipwood) test/practice piece straight off the router - it's waiting for me to test out plans A, B and quite likely C, for how I'm going to deal with stuff like the string-through holes without the proper tools!

Gracious, that's a handsome neck.  And you say it's just going to be your test part to make sure the other stuff fits right? Not sure you're clear on what "reduced circumstances" means, because you appear to be doing it wrong.

But seriously - that's a lovely part, and I envy you for having snapped it up.

That is a beautiful neck. It looks like two of those mounting holes have been repaired already. If you're going to be putting it on and off a lot, you might want to install steel inserts.

Thanks! It's definitely seen some action (see what I did there?) The repaired mounting holes don't look the cleanest, but I know and trust the guy who did the work, so I'm hoping to get some use out of it before I need to do anything else with it.

The speed things happen around here will count in its favour - long periods of inactivity, punctuated by brief flurries of not getting much done. Surprisingly enough, my 'to do' list is long.
