My Z bass is finally here

13 weeks of waiting is over.  Sadly, I don't love the body.  It's not the billowy cloud quilt maple that I drool over.  :sad1:  The neck, however, is great.  I've never seen wenge or canary in person before this and they're beautiful.  I love the red stripe running down the fingerboard.  Anyway, enough talking... here's the pics...

I really like that natural masked binding with that finish. I don't think that quilt is anything to turn your nose up at though, I think its a pretty intriguing pattern. While that single bridge placement of the pickup isn't really my thing, I think it's going to come out beautiful.

I actually dig how restrained the quilt top is. I find many tops are a bit extreme, this has a subtlety to it that makes it more intriguing to my eye.

Agree.  It is actually unlike any quilt I've seen.  Very cool.

The red stripe in the neck is da bomb.  :icon_thumright:  An awesome subtle statement, and unique look. 

I wouldn't fret the quilt just yet; you get the hardware filling those dark holes and the neck on, and it may make that quilt pop out a bit more.  Gonna be a nice looking bass for sure.  :kewlpics:

Is the top a dye or transparent finish?  That could be what is restraining the visual pop factor.

I plan on trying to put a video up after it's done.  My tone isn't for everyone though... it's mostly mids and highs with a bunch of string/fret noise in a sad attempt to get a tone like DD Verni from Overkill.  :headbang1:

Hmm... you might be on to something.  My order and receipt says black dye, but it does look a lot like transparent black.  Unfortunately, in my impatience and dislike for my current bass I've already drilled into it and mounted all the hardware so I probably have no recourse other than to love it like an ugly daughter.
