Yeah.. I know it doesn't seem all that cool.  But say what you will about whatever music you don't like (I'm no country fan. no big surprise there) but I've always found theres a lot of room for respect with fellow artists.  and hey I'm from alberta. Country here is as big as any other form of music.

Anyway! the story:

back in 2005 my wife (we weren't married then) managed to get on a winning bid to perform in Kandahar for the ISAF soldiers on one of the tours they hold there a couple times a year. and the big name on the bill was Julian Austin. I have to admit I still have no idea who he is really but the fact he is a star is corroborated by one of my friends g/f ( and her mom ) who had been listening to him since she was 4 and has all his albums.  Anyway... He came to Lethbridge to film a video on top of the old firehall in town which is now a bar/venue and the guy who books our band works for a modelling agency who was charged with getting people to the video shoot because they needed extras.  Well he called my wife and told her she should come.  She told him that she knew Julian and would definately come be an extra in his video.

Well she showed up and He recognized her immediately and they started talking about music and Afganistan ( I guess hes gone 3 times now ) and he told her that on the track there is a female backup and he had nobody to be "in" the band for the video, so he asked her to be his backup singer in the video.  So shes in the video, and she looks all... cowgirl, which is a little weird because she's not country at all.  But she had fun and now the video is up on CMT and we made some contacts with these video production guys in Toronto that came out to do the video.  I guess one of the guys on the camera crew had just finished working on one of Kelly Clarksons videos.

Good connections all around.

PS. I get it okay. shes hot. I know I married her, don't drool on your keyboards.  :laughing7:

Dude, that is way cool  :headbang1:
I still have no clue as to who Julian Austin might be.  I like some country music but am very selective .
Congrats on the video; however, the real kudos goes to your lovely wife for entertaining the troops!!!
I bow down to anyone that takes care of our troops.  These folks put their life on the line each day so we don't have to put our lives on the line...
God bless our troops  :hello2: :blob7: :hello2:

Hey, cool!  Not a bad song either, though that guy's voice is kind of annoying.

I also support our troops, but I have no opinion on the Canadian troops.  :laughing7:

yea, your wife is pretty cute.

But that's a lame song!  Holy crap!  and I'm a country guy!

growing up (before i discovered rock.. thank you billy corgan!) my favorites were Dwight Yokam, Brooks & Dunn, Alabama, & good 'ol Garth.  but yeah.. max.. you're probably right.

Lately I've actually been getting into a Reba a bit.  not for the music so much as for the songs...  she's got some dark stuff!  Mostly though.  I don't think Country has been all that great since the late 60s

I rather like it. The guys a Maverick, I ,mean, a white Les Paul in a CMT video?..Gotta love it! Also, with all those  tats and stuff, he's in the mold of outlaw/ renegade  country, like 'ol Hank Williams III.
I really like the fact that the dude doesn't milk that sappy uber- national-socialistic crap that makes me want to vomit, like Toby Keith does, even though he has served out troops by entertaining them as much or more!  The song , IMO, is a good solid song. Two thumbs up!

Very cool that she got in the video and she's definitely a beauty, but that song tops the charts of craptastic county.  That dude is about as renegade country as my grandmother's chihuahuas.

And how is Toby Keith socialistic?  Douchebag? Yep.  Exploitative? Absolutely.  Not sure I see how a socialistic tag makes it in there.

He saddens me though because he actually had some decent songs back in the early 90s.  Country coming out of Nashville has been terrible for the most part lately with a few exceptions.  Brad Paisley comes to mind.

I never liked toby keith.  I do like Keith Urban though, at least he seems pretty genuine about what he likes.  Funny thing is my wife actually opened for him too.  It was a reward for winning some local singing contest.

I like country - the Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Junior Brown, Gary Stewart, Don Williams country, and I have to qualify it with that I don't like "Nashville Country."  Over produced, too polished, a cartoon of itself, basically a pop song with pedal steel and/or fiddle thrown on top and a forced vocal twang.  This is Nashville Country.  I'd bet dollars to doughnuts the guy singing doesn't even like that style or song.  A gig is a gig though.  Congrats on the networking opportunity and landing your spouse.

Man, if that's what passes for a country music star, there's hope for me still. :)

Anyway, congrats on your wife getting the exposure.  That's great.

Just listened to the song - wow that's awful! I don't see how that's 'country' at all, just an awful pop tune with banal lyrics and a by-the numbers guitar hook.
I was just playing a couple of Cash tunes and listening to an old Emmylou Harris record this week too, thinking "hey I really like country now".  :dontknow:

I forgot to add: Congratulations on the exposure for your wife!
Opinions on the song aside, that's great that she got into the video. :headbang1:

Three cheers for attractive significant others!  :eek:ccasion14:

I watched the vid with the sound off first, and that was pretty funny.

Ha, Cash is about the only country I listen to. I just got into him recently, since I was turned off by the country I hear on the radio.

Well, there's your problem.  Other than maybe Brad Paisley or Keith Urban, you don't hear country on the radio.

Try out Reckless Kelly, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Robert Earl Keen, Roger Creager, Micky and Motorcars, and, of course, Lyle Lovett.
