My new SG!

My SG body and neck just got here from Warmoth.  This is my first purchase from the company, and I have to give them kudos for some excellent craftsmanship.

Both the neck and body are mahogany.  The neck has a 25.5" scale, ebony fingerboard, mother of pearl dots, and narrow/tall frets.  The body's got routing for two P90 pickups, and it's rear-routed for the controls.  It's drilled for a ToM bridge, but no tailpiece -- I'm going to mount a Bigbsby vibrato unit on it.

Awesome!

It's nice to see something other than a strat or tele, and that's gonna be amazing when it's done  :kewlpics:

The Bigsby trem will make a cool and unique twist to this build.

Great!!! Continue to post pics of this, looks great and its great to see some variety on here! We wanna hear about installing the bigsby especially.

Thanks for all the encouragement, everybody.

I'm going to paint the body & neck with a transparent heritage red finish sort of like this:

I'll post pictures and notes regarding my progress.  Right now, I'm busy filling the grain with Acraglas[1].

Hopefully you will document setting the neck.  I've always been curious about this.  Cheers!

setting the neck? uh... come again? :icon_scratch:

trans red is the only way to go on a mahogany SG, IMHO.  Although I would like to do a Firebrand style satin brown SG someday...

A lot of folks seem to be worried that the necks on Warmoth SG's and Les Paul double-cuts don't have enough wood to keep the neck from wobbling about. At least that's my interpretation of the comment.

That certainly worries me (is it justified, by the way?), but I think that guy just didn't realize that Warmoth SGs are bolt-ons.  (Notice he has one post.)

Sure, Brian, but that's a set neck.  Look at how little wood supports the neck on a Warmoth SG:
