My friend Joey has a pair of MIJ Jazz basses. I had replaced one neck with a Warmoth already.
It was an interesting job because the old necks were 3-bolt types, and so I had to modify the holes.
He's happy with that one, which was maple/rosewood neck I finished in Tru-Oil.
Well, like any good Warmoth junkie, he wanted the 2nd J-bass upgraded too.
So last night he brought over a sunburst J body, replacement black hardware, Dimarzio J-bass pickups and, best of all, a Wenge/Ebony Warmoth neck.
My Saturday evening was spent with rat-tail files, a soldering iron, and some screwdrivers etc.
He's really happy with it, and I am too. I like to way it looks, sounds and plays. It wasn't a nightmare job (but it wasn't just a straight assembly either), and I'm glad to say that my wiring skills are improving, since nowadays I seem to get the wiring right on the first try.
Best of all, he couldn't stop playing it. I figure that's a good sign.
