I am thinking of using this

http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/preparation/minwax-water-based-prestain-wood-conditioner

then this

http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/stains/minwax-water-based-wood-stain

in a bold color on a maple and a swamp ash body

then using this to cover it

does anyone see any issues/ problems with this ? for those two wood choices?

one will be a fretless bass
one will be a fretted bass

I am doing a double whammy here

The products should play nice together.  Question is about the top coat.  What kind of look are you going for?

Cool. Just make sure the top coat doesn't Amber up and you should be in business.

PS. Whenever I read your name I hear Rick from Walking Dead yelling, "Carrrrllllll"! Lol

ok, another question.  I am getting a maple neck/maple fretboard that I am going to ca finish to make the fretless last.

Do I poly the whole neck first? or tape off the fingerboard---poly the back of the neck, then ca glue the fingerboard?

I guess it boils down to---will ca go on top of poly?

Scrap wood is your friend. test and practice then you will be prepared prior to doing the neck.
