Merry Christmas everyone...

Merry X-Mas peeps....Have a safe and happy holidaze.... :eek:ccasion14:

And TroubledTreble," ya'll " here in Texas = you all...

Happy Holidays!
I'm visiting one parent at a time, so far I've got both the new Wheel of Time book and Alan Moore's The Killing Joke. The nerd in me (and lets face it, that's most of me) is very pleased. Also some Kusmi tea and some cold hard cash.
Also looking forward to New Year, I'll be going to a party with one of my best friends who I haven't met for 1,5 years and I'll be wearing my tuxedo. Win-win!

Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
Seasons Greetings.

I finally got a theremin  :blob7: .

Bit late, but hope you all have/had a blast.

Oh yeah, I used to live in south at one time. ( born there actually ) Down there y'all could mean one person or more, but to make it positively plural "all y'all" was used.

Just cause' you was "fixin" to do something didn't mean you were going to actually fix something.

I could go on and on.

Anyway, I do hope all y'all are fixin' to have good new year too!  :icon_jokercolor:

Y'all is often equal to All Y'all. All Y'all can be used to address larger groups, or to denote that each person was important.

haha, y'all is right, Troubled Treble, I have heard both here! after 6 years in Texas, I am still trying to get used to it!

"all ya'll" is usually people from Oklahoma...Or yankees trying to fit in..

For example, they would say...."what are all ya'll doing"...

We'd say....whutch ya'll doin'... :icon_biggrin:

I'm just sooooooooo thankful that the Aussie accent variations are so slight that even most Aussies couldn't pick up the differences. I have been told there is a difference between, say, Perth locals and Sydney locals, and Brisbane locals and Melbourne's. But be damned if I could find the variations? :dontknow:

I've nearly seen fistfights break out the moment a Northern Irish guy opened his mouth in front of an Irishman from the Republic of Ireland, back in their bad old days! To me, they both sounded Irish, but evidently there is a marked difference in the accent and the way they speak and when they were very much at war with each other, even saying hello across the street the accent could give you up.

You have to be a bit of a language snob to really pinpoint those differences. For instance, Queensland people seem to spend way to much time pronouncing their vowels and south Australians sound as though their speaking through a rotating speaker cabinet, there is a certain rhythm to their sentences and words seam to fling themselves at you.  :laughing7:

Then there's the bushies' accents.............. l       o        t  '      s                  s       l        o     w       e     r          than the  city folks! :laughing7:    ( no offence intended)

Ya'll does mean you all.  All ya'll means all of you, almost like "you people" but not in the Ross Perot sense.  Up North there's "youins" and "yous guys" which rougly mean the same thing.  I haven't found the equivalent for "fixin' to" other than the translation of "about to."
