Meanwhile, at Warmoth....Chechen necks have arrived!

That's what I was thinking. Suggestion was made that one of those would look great on Great Ape's latest treasure, but I disagree. You don't want anything drawing attention away from that body. Those necks are stars in their own right. They need to mate with more nondescript bodies.

Agreed.

You should either wear loud pants and a plain shirt, or plain pants and a loud shirt. If you're wearing both, well....then you're just Rodney Dangerfield.

"Nice hat.  Oh sure, on you it looks good."

Hey Aaron, I asked Brian about the possibility of getting a notification if a nice shipment or hunk of pau ferro comes in.  He says unfortunately he wouldn't be able to do that.  Maybe I could put a bug in your head that if you see something come in suitable for an outstanding bass neck, you could let me know somehow?  I don't want to make myself a nuisance of the W sales team.

I can keep my eyes open, but honestly it's mostly out of my hands. I do walk through the shop every day and see our wood stockpiles, and shipments coming and going, but the logistics of lumber use at a manufacturing facility like ours go well beyond "hey...there's a great piece of wood!" There are myriad concerns surrounding when and how lumber is used; things that wouldn't even occur to most people.

It's really quite fascinating, to be honest.

There's a couple I really am attracted to, but I'm afraid I'd have to rework the headstock shape. For what I need, and I'm not sure I could bring myself to do that...

I could. I'd buy a Strat-headed part and have it cut to a Warhead immediately.

I'd get Warmoth to do it. They have dust collectors and respirators, and they don't charge much for the service. If I have 10 Warheads here, I'll bet 7 of them started life as Strat heads.

Dust collectors and respirators....where's the fun in that...

Warmoth does the Warhead for you, as Cagey said.... can't remember the price, think 25

Yeah, I know, but that weird chick in the corner who double-checks to make sure that no strap peg holes have been drilled is always complaining, so now everybody's gotta wear face, ear, mouth, nose, eye, knee and ankle protection... unless you work in the shop, then it gets more complicated. Maybe Puyallup, WA is too close to Portland, OR.  :dontknow:

I've lived in Portland, Puyallup is way more normal than Portland but being on the west coast its always possible a complainer snuck by.  :laughing7:

I called and asked if they'd do an Explorer neck, but they said that their only remaining material could make a linear neck (Stratocaster or Telecaster).  It might not be too late for some of you....

I hope that they had fun with their "chechen" experiment, and will do things like that on a regular basis!
