Mayfly BC30 review on the Gear page

1 - walnut would be great.  some kind of satin clear finish would be fine.  A waxed finish might be kind of nice with lots of grain showing.
2 - I think the entire amp should be wood.  Would be interesting if the front and back panels were a different complementary color (this was kind of the mayfly thing), but not really necessary.
3 - Looking at the drawing again, yep I did include the extra 1/8" - didn't look at it closely last night.  Remember - I drew these almost 10 years ago!
4 - Yep, the front and back panels are inset.
5 - Wider?  sure.
6 - Corners?  Naw - not on a hardwood amp.  Would detract from the look.
7 - the chassis is mounted with blind rivet nuts attached to the chassis and are then bolted from below.  I'll take care of drilling the appropriate holes.

Alright, that should be as much as I need to know. I'll get started on it this coming week.

Cool!

er, should we talk price?

Certainly not where the kids can hear us. But, I'm thinking $124,285.00 each. After all, amps don't build themselves <grin>

Seriously, I gotta think on it, and right now I'm supposed to be grilling burgers. Some sort of holiday. So, I'll get back to you.

Groovy.

Trevor can you explain the cut control? My amp has one and I still can't figure out a use for it.

It's a single pole low pass filter in the output stage.  It's mostly used for cutting some of the top end hash that can spring up in an overdriven sound.

The Brian May tone uses the cut control to good effect.

Mayfly and/or Cagey, how is this project coming?  Are you still considering making and selling a few of these?

There are two in process. The amps are built, he's just waiting on the cabinets from me. They're very close to done, and barring any unforseen circumstances or additional visits from my alter-ego Stupid Kevin, should ship this week. One is a walnut body with a zebrawood faceplate and an oak backplate, the other is an oak body with a zebrawood face and also has an oak back. Corners are dovetailed, the faces and backs are inset, grillwork is recessed. Here are a few in-process shots I grabbed along the way...

Man, that looks good. Maybe I'll ask to take over some of the the other ad designer's workload...

Those are still pretty raw. I'll get some shots up of them with finishes in the next couple days.

Mr Cagey,

Raw or not, those cabs are looking excellent!  I don't think that my amps were ever dressed up so well.

I'm glad you like them. They're much prettier than that in real life.

Incidentally, do you know what the thread is on the nuts you use to hold the chassis in? Also, I've seen that there's a faceplate for the chassis front, but what about the back?

Raw walnut? You should dye that green!

in all seriousness, that is looking really nice, regardless of what the finish winds up being.

I'm going to have to look at the threads - my memory tells me 10/24 but that could be faulty.  There is a backplate on the back of the chassis as well.  Each plate is 1/16 thick.

Ok. Well, lemme know when you get a chance.

BTW, I should point out that only one of these will be for sale.  The other I'm keeping for myself :)
