Mayfly BC30 review on the Gear page

I just shouldn't get my hopes up for a bad Mayfly review, should I?  :laughing7:

I'm really liking what I hear about these amps, though. I may need to see if I can find one for sale if I gather the change.

Mayfly, now I'm curious, how many amps have you built and sold?

And have you any plans to start production again?  I would think a good website, and a few great reviews would have you swamped with business

Thanks for the kind words.  I was at it for 5 years, made just under 100.  Had a great website (for the time) and had great reviews in harmony central (still there).

Was not swamped with orders.

Now I'd rather spend the time making music.

Only if someone does the cabinets.  I hate that part!
I'll do cabinets. I've got a shop and I'm good at it. Send me some specs and a wish list, or if you'd like, you can ship me an amp and I'll build something around it for a showpiece.

LOL! Well, lemme know if you change your mind. Could be fun. I'm an electrical engineer as well, so if you need any help with design/build, I might come in handy there as well.

Sounds interesting.  I have complete drawings for the head boxes.  The design could be improved on though - I used 1/4 plywood for the front and back faceplates - we should probably beef that up to at least 1/2 ".  Would you be interested in doing hardwood cabs alla older boogies?  Might be cooler than just boring old tolex.

BTW - Where are you located?

I've done some fine hardwood enclosures - I wish I had pictures. Last one I did was quite unique. It was all solid walnut, dovetailed, and designed around a Fender Twin chassis. Rather than have a pair of 12" speakers below, though, I built a 4 space 19" rack with a little "junk drawer" next to it to fill out the leftover width. It made the whole thing taller than a head, but shorter than the typical Twin combo design. Gave it to my brother, and the idiot sold it a couple years ago to some guy who just flipped over it.

I've also used oak, like the old Boogies and Carvins. Same construction - dovetail the joints to make them interesting, rout the edges, nice finishes, etc. Look like furniture when theyr'e done <grin>

I'm located just a little way north of Detroit, MI in Clinton Township.

Hey!  That's not too far away from Ottawa!  Although there still is that pesky border there.

I'll scan the drawings (Yep, they are drawings) tonight and send them off.

Posting just to keep me updated on this thread - mighty intriguing. Mayf, did you ever do an AC15-alike or did you stick to the 30 watters?
