I just read a story about a shooting that took place at the bus stop by my apartment.  Underneath it, there is a comments section, and it appears to be all comments from gangbangers talking trash at each other and various gangs.  Apparently there is a gang named after my street.  :sad1:

I knew our area was kind of ghetto, but I didn't think we were that bad.

You're probably right, if it's getting that rough... :dontknow:

That's why I carry my pistol wherever I go....

sounds like my high school. gang activity all the time in school, fights (with and without weapons), and shootings or stabbings at the mall and bus station next to the mall. gangs are some of the most pathetic things around, nobody knows how to take care of their own problems anymore.

Take care Hannaugh and yep, think of moving to somewhere less stressful.

On a side note re: gangs....Two bus drivers from my region where I work were assaulted by a gang while they were laying up at a bus terminus over the weekend in Syndey upper Northern Beaches. This is one of the more affluent areas of Syndey yet not a whisper on the news about it, but the minute someone farts in the wrong direction in the lesser affluent areas of Syndey, like Sydney's western suburbs, it's all over the radio and TV about "what can we do to stop this crime etc..." I grew up in Sydney's west and I now realise my perception of where I came from has been totaslly misrepresented by the media bias. Yes, it is the workign class area of Sydney but crime and all sorts of incidents do happen elsewhere it is just that they aren't reported somehow.....

Why is it always the Western Suburbs in Australia that are always the rough areas. i grew up and live in Victoria's Western Suburbs, and its crazy some of the "individuals" I see on our public transport system. I guess i have probably become desensitized to it all, as there really is too much that surprises me. We have a saying out my way. "Nothing weak comes out of Laverton"

Sorry to hijack.  :icon_biggrin:

Hanna, I moved to Riverside to get out of that.
I know I pay with my cost of commuting, but I can leave my house without worring about break ins and I take long walks around the neighborhood talking to my neighbors. When I lived in the South Bay area I would never think of walking like that AND I LOCKED MY DOOR EVEN WHEN I WAS AT HOME.
Now If I hear a siren I know it is passing down a street going somewhere else, not to the house 2 lots down with a lowered Regal out front.

I dunno, Riverside is getting kinda ghetto these days too... Casa Blanca is pretty horrific.  Most of Fullerton is really nice, I just live in the bad area because I ain't got no money.

We're still waiting on my possible promotion and my husband's possible new job... hopefully we'll know by May what is going to happen with that.  Then we're out of here.

Do you still want to get out of California?

i live near a small city called newburgh in new york. it has the highest crime per capita in the state (hard to believe but it is true or it was in recent years, albany might be worse now, most of new york city is quite tame these days), my friend had a guy gunned down on the hood of his car while driving home from work. he then drove over the body through a red light to get the hell out of there. i always here about places in southern california and detroit and it is hard to think about how bad it must be, i know some of these places make newburgh look like a paradise.

it might be scary but most of the violence is between gangs, not towards bystanders. as long as you know what blocks not to go on and you keep things of value out of sight you should be fine. infact when my friend was living on a bad street his neighbors may have called him whitee and cracker but those were immature kids, he once left his doors unlocked in his car with his cd's in site and came back to his car having the windows rolled up and doors locked by someone else. they knew he was in the same boat they were and even though he didn't look like his neighbors people looked out for his stuff. basically people are generally good even if gangs bring out the worst in them the violence is usually limited to the gangs. but that doesn't mean not to be careful. in the 90's there was a lot of senseless gang violence in new windsor and newburgh as part of a gang innitiation that had originated in new york city. they would cut people with razors to get in the gang. they were mostly highschool kids and some of them were from the better parts of newburgh and some from new windsor which has almost no crime. the targets were not important, they would cut anyone to get into the gangs. the movie theater was there favorite spot to find a victem and we couldn't go without supervision. there was always 1-2 police cars in the parking lot and we all looked over our shoulders.

Once again you make me ask WTF?!?! Lowered Regal? Seriously? Your stereo types are offensive and tiresome. Now I really do understand where the stereo types come from but to continuously make assinine comments shows your mentality. For the record I happen to own 2 lowered Buicks and have never had the sirens stop at my house.

Your friend drove over someone to get away? That's a hit and run.

well the guy shouldn't have been on the hood of his car!

and well i dont actually think he drove over top of him though i made it sound that way. the guy was shot, fell on his hood and my friend promptly hit the gas, im sure the guy slid off the side of his hood. but when bullets are flying what would you do?

i have a lowered monte carlo similar to a regal and im not even hispanic. ok it's not exactly low rider lowered but it is lower than stock. i also have a regal. i know some puerto rican guys in local car clubs and they are all upstanding people. most car guys aren't trouble makers but unfortuately some trouble makers like cars or that's what tv and pop culture would have yo believe anyway. please don't be so quick to jump on people. i make comments at times that aren't politically correct and had they said something about the italians with the Lincolns/cadilacs i'd probably laugh. not that i think there is much of that in california. you are entitled to be pissed and maybe i shouldn't be butting in, i just dont want an environment where everyone needs to watch what they say. maybe there was legitamately a drug dealer or gang member down the street from him with a lowered regal and it was a literal situation and not a generalization that the gang members where the ones driving lowered buicks.

Pete's comment made me think about my own town (Malmö, southern Sweden). There's an area here called Rosengård where all the immigrants from the last ca 20 years have ended up and as you might imagine, it's a pretty poverty riddled place. Because of this, whenever there is an incident there it makes the national news - just last night some police cars where attacked. The thing is, if you live there it's a very safe area with families with small children everywhere. In Värnhem where I live, much closer to the centre of town, I've had to shoo out a junkie several times from the stairwell... There's always drunken shouting of the unpleasant kind on the street outside on weekends. But, since the Rosengård residents are mostly non-whites, that's what media focuses on.
And thus we elected nazis into our parliament a few months ago. It's amazing how stupid people are.

Oh man!  I called it.  I knew when I read that, that would get you going.

I wish we had that option in the UK, the best we can do is spit at them and say "how rude!"

Same here, then those damn Asian gangs in Melbourne would look mighty silly bringin their knives to a gunfight, even if they do have great big long machetes. Nothin' a .45 couldn't handle.
