Hey all! Minor DIY accomplishment alert!  :icon_biggrin:

The maple Mighty Mite neck on my Surf Green practicecaster originally had a smooth, non-sticky matte finish. Over time it had become quite glossy and sticky (especially on humid days like today). So I just went at it with some 0000 synthetic steel wool to knock the shine off. It seems to have worked, though it still feels a little sticky. I may have to go at it a bit more, or it may just be way too humid for guitar.

So...hooray for me I guess. I assume everyone out there has already done this a million times? Or have I just messed up an otherwise acceptable neck?  :laughing7:

No, that's a common cure for that sort of thing. But, I don't know what the weather's like there, but here in Michigan you could hose your guitar down with KY jelly and it would still be sticky. Mean ol' Mr. Weather has not been treating us well for the last week or 10 days. Even with generous doses of Dihydrogen Monoxide, my flowers are all going tits-up.

Wow, it's been something like 10 or 12 years since I ran across the DHMO website.  Which is to say, it looks pretty much exactly like it did way back when internet pr0n movies were all 10 seconds long:
