I received this yesterday from Warmoth to finish for nullref in a nitrocellouse Mary Kaye style finish. I'll post progress pictures as I go along so he can enjoy the process from a distance and you are all welcome to join in the fun if you choose.  This is a great piece of Swamp Ash for this type of finish as it has some very beautiful grain with some really cool mineral streaks. I'm predicting a real beauty.

This one will be fun to watch. You're right, the grain is really cool in it.

I agree. I don't think you could ask for a better grain under a Mary Kaye finish. That's gonna turn out great.

Ironically Mary never played a strat on stage.  She instead favored big hollowbodies.

Vegas must have been pretty fun back in the day...

Ever since your "Mary Kaye White for Vikingred" thread a while back I've had a rather powerful GAS for one. This ain't gonna help any! The body is a fine candidate and I can't wait to see the results!

Agreed. This build didn't start out as a NOS Mary Kaye strat, but that thread certainly sealed the deal. For me at least...

Here it is with the paste filler and the first coat of clear. It will take a few more coats of clear and level sanding before I can shoot the color.

That grain is really something. Almost looks like Zebrawood. Helluva piece.

I finally got the Swamp Ash level and shot color today. I think this is going to wind up pretty nice! I'll start with the final coats of clear next week.
Level filled, sealed, sanded and ready for color.

Final coat on edges and the whole body shaded.

Very nice! That's a great body for a translucent finish. Must be tricky getting the pigment concentration right for that sort of thing.
