If you order a maple body with a one piece swamp ash top, and get Mary Kay on top and Alpine White on the back, how will this look? Will the line between the maple and ash be covered with a white burst? I'm not looking for a clean line. I'm going for the tone of maple and the look of a translucent white finish on ash.

I don't know much about it. I want as much of the ash top to show as possible. I'm still in the research phase here.

Is the burst something I have to custom order? If I pick Mary Kay on top and Alpine on the back, is that how they'll do it?

There's a bit of an upcharge for that kind of paint job, but they will probably do it.

Should look fine.

In theory, the finish wouldn't be any harder than a any transparent top with solid color back.  The most common being a black back.  This would just have an Alpine White back.  It sounds like you want a small burstover from the back and sides to leave as much of the Ash showing as possible.  Make this a phone order due to the custom nature.  It's better to talk to a person than type a description.

I have a Mary Kaye Strat and the see-through is vague.  The grain comes through but not much else.  It should be quite easy for them to hid the lamination line.  It is also one helluva cool effect.  Subtle and fun to stare at.
